I agree with Nick but its not that simple. If you have a full HD TV/STB and you have a simulcast like BBC 2 SD & HD then you don't need the SD channel but if you can't receive HD broadcasts then its the SD version you need. In London you need both BBC 1 HD and BBC 1 London SD but in Ulster their HD & SD versions of BBC 1 are simulcast so you only need one. At the moment there are only 4 HD channels plus regional variations on Freeview/Freesat so keeping both HD & SD channels alongside each other is acceptable but next year there will be more. A good example for the future in the UK is that on my Sat receiver I have about 60 distinct German channels of which about 18 are HD (They too have a lot of regional variations within each Land so the actual numbers are much higher than this). I simply store one variety or flavour of each station in my German favourites - HD if its available - SD if not - sorted in alpha order so I can find them and it is just about manageable.

Pat you haven't by chance pressed the digital/analogue button by mistake have you? If you are on the analogue setting you might get a fuzzy screen.

Kevin It will be a quad LNB so all four are interchangeable so you can use any of the 3 unused ones for the 2nd tuner in the Freesat+ box. By the way I think Luddite is a bit strong a term for you - unless of course you intend smashing up your Humax rather than watching TV!

Upgrading from Sky to Freesat | Freesat

Will Ive got 4 quad LNBs on a bracket and have 13 cables coming off my dish so would struggle to find another word to describe what it looks like besides unsightly. You on the other hand are only proposing to use 5 of your possible 8 outputs which should be easy enough to tape up neatly. Id only go for the second dish if the cable runs are difficult from the existing dish.

Upgrading from Sky to Freesat | Freesat

jb38 Thanks for the suggestion but I have to confess Ive never really understood what a Quattro LNB does. I have a 4 satellite set up and so have 4 LNBs each one pointing at a different satellite group. I chose quad LNBs because I have one twin tuner recorder and an old single tuner receiver with a big external hard drive which I used to record stuff when away from home but which died on me last week & probably wont be replaced. All three tuners are connected via diseqc switches which account for 12 of the cables and another even older single tuner receiver is connected to one of the LNBs via the dish motor which I have kept in case strong winds move the dish laterally. This has happened a couple of times in the past and it was useful to be able to realign the dish without climbing a ladder. The twin tuner recorder doesnt have the software to run the motor but I can watch the signal strength/quality on that machine while jiggling the dish with the old receiver. I know that Will isnt trying to receive signals from other satellites but my point was that 13 cables taped to the LNB arm does look a mess whereas 5 cables shouldnt!

All about Freesat | Freesat

Wayne If by normal you mean a terrestrial or Freeview recorder then no it wont work on its own. To receive satellite programmes you need a satellite tuner in a recorder, set top box or TV. You can use a Freesat satellite set top box and record programmes on a Freeview recorder connected by Scart lead and using an AV input instead of the internal tuner but you have to set both machines separately. Much better is to get a twin tuner Freesat recorder so you can set recordings from an EPG and watch a second programme at the same time.

Dan Firstly it will be satellite not terrestrial (freeview) broadcasts that you might be able to receive. Secondly the main problem you will have is that satellite broadcasts to the UK & Ireland are now even more concentrated on these islands than before and so you will probably need a dish 2-3 metres in diameter. If you do a search online for Astra 28.2e footprints you will get the gist. If you can find a British expat in Slovakia forum you might find someone that has tried.

Dan/MikeB We may be at cross purposes here. Humax make both terrestrial (e.g. Freeview) and satellite receivers and as MikeB says there is no way you could receive UK terrestrial broadcasts in Slovakia. However it might be possible to receive UK satellite broadcasts with a big enough dish but you need to find out from someone who has succeeded just how big if indeed it is possible. Sending them the money to buy a local terrestrial receiver will enable them to receive Slovak TV but I didn't think that was the point of your question.

Tony Jarvis According to the Lyngsat website Channel 4 HD is on Astra 2F on 11126MHz and the regional variations of Channel 4 SD are on Astra 2E on 10714 MHz. I can confirm that I get both the HD channel and the London SD channel on my receiver on these frequencies without moving the dish as you would expect as both satellites are at 28.2° East.
