That price doesn't seem unreasonable assuming they have used good quality materials and completed the install well.
I guess you was advised the price before work started?
if so then you cannot really question the price as you was happy to proceed on that basis.

Set top aerials are never very good even in the best locations.

in your location you will end up with issues on other muxes too, I find installing near you difficult for reception on HP so always use VP.
I would put it back to VP and sacrifice the new coms.

In my experience a pvr 5 years old has done well to last that long.
There like a computer, the more you save on them and delete, the slower they tend to work over time, then eventually they pack up working.

Another thing that needs to be considered will be the signal quality.
This is just as important as strength, your strength levels do not matter as long as they are within the spec mentioned by JB38, however the signal quality is critical. This can be measure using a spectrum analyser.
You can have perfect signal strength and still get poor quality reception meaning you will still have problems.

just a bit of advice,
if you take back the receiver to change it for a freesat box, you should tell the shop you was sold the wrong thing as they will only accept the return of a box if it is faulty.

hi,
all muxes have been working fine.
if an obstruction has been built in your line of sight to the transmitter this could be causing the issue you are having. if you can access your aerial you should try to move it, even a few feet left or right can clear the view of an obstruction.

I am a local installer and would say its better to use VP rather than HP.
HP will be having more channels available than VP, however these channels are outputted at very low strengths so you may struggle to receive them without a high gain aerial and amplification.
VP is far superior in reception, you are now able to fit much smaller aerials without the need for amplification, which in turn means less wind load, less chance of storm damage and less chance of issues such as amps tripping out.

in response to A - you are correct in saying Rowridge transmits at lower levels away from 4G, however there may be parts of your system that are prone to receiving 4G such as a wideband aerial receiving 21-68 (which you shouldn't have as its new) and also an amplifier receiving 21-68, which again you shouldn't have, if you have an amplifier it should either be 4G protected but if you do have an older one which can receive 21-68 then your recent installer should have fitted a 4G filter in preparation for protection.
