David Hawke: There could a couple of reasons, but first check which transmitter your tuned to and signal strength - could be too weak or too strong. Also then check your aerial - is it working properly. And is the problem constant, and particular time, and what exactly happens?

Jo Gannon: A couple of things occur - firstly, are you actually tuned to Winter Hill? If you look on the home to mast link, you can see that there are other transmitters that would give a worse signal, but might come up first in any scan.
The second is that you've got a fault in the cabling, and perhaps moisture is creeping in at night (when its cooler).
The other could be that your booster is causing a problem by giving you too high a signal (check that the signal is actually dropping, and not going wildly up and down) try bypassing it, since your just 31km from Winter Hill and might not need it.
After that, perhaps someone else has an idea?

Jo: forget about bypassing the booster - you've got an indoor aerial, not a booster. To be honest, indoor aerials are normally pretty rubbish...

Jane padgett: The Goodmans box is a bit pants (I know, I've got one), and one of its problems is that it scans starting at the lowest RF number and going on from there. Have a look at your home to mast plot and Digital UK coverage. Winter Hill (which should give you a great reception, is on channel 50. Haslingden (which only 15 degress away from Winter Hill and is on 26) & Birch Vale are lite transmitters and it should pick them up first. If you've only relatively few channels, thats probably whats happened, but it could be that your getting Moel y Parc, which is on 47 (and is going to be a lousy signal).
Check which transmitter your on. The Goodmans wont tell you the transmitter name, just which region it is (Waltahm isn't Waltham, its East Midlands, for instance). Its unlikely to be a faulty box, just not a very good one, since your cant manually tune it. JB38's trick is to leave the aerial lead out for about the first 30% of the scan, which gets its past the ones you dont want. If you get it, dont retune!
The good news is that when you get a new TV, which Freeview HD built in, it should pick everything up automoatcially, and you can manually tune it.

b.stallard: Since I've never heard of Technosonic (there is some chatter on the net about them being rebadged Thmsons), and can't find any manual, I'm having to guess at what on the back of the set! I'm also guessing that you've also got some kind of surround sound system, which might have a a pair of RCA phono's (red/white). If you have a list of the connections ('Connecting it all up' as a good page on them), and the make/model of surround sound system, that would be great.
OK - if you had a digital optical on both, then I'd use that. Since you've havn't mentioned them, I'm assuming they are not around, but still...
Most TV's from around 2006-1010 had twin RCA sound imputs, along with a yellow video input. They also had RCA outputs, as (hopefully) does the sound system. Thats what I'd use. It might just have a 3.5mm jack, at either end, but you can easly buy cables to convert to RCA.
Frankly, I'll need more info on the connections for both systems - can you list them both?

Smiffy1968: In a 'perfect world', we wouldn't have crime at all, but since we have had crime since the dawn of time, I'm not optimistic that the global community is any more capable of tracking down all fraudsters, any more than it is all drug dealers or terrorists. Rega, pretty much all fridge/freezers with an LCD readout will give you a temp. display for both compartments - mine certainly does, and its bog standard. True, its not normally possible to see them both at the same time (which would be a help), but if I press a button at the top of my fridge/freezer, it will go from the freezer temp to the fridge temp.
If you do want a fridge which gives you both temps at once, then the Samsung Smart fridge is exactly what you want! Some like this machine even has an 8in screen 30 cu. ft. Side by Side Refrigerator and 8" LCD Digital Display with Apps | Samsung Refrigerators RSG309AARS (which has a very nice display showing both temps) and of course there is an app https://play.google.com/s….aus
And this is the way things are going. In fact someone in the white goods department of the store where I work sold the first Samsung Smart washing machine in the UK, Europe or possibly the world (the Samsung reps story was a little jumbled..). Within five years, this will probably be standard on most machines.
MikeP - much as we would like to disconnect ourselves from the web, increasingly its not practical for most of us, if only because using email, the web, Iplayer, Spotify, etc is so useful. The best we can do, as yo say, is to give hackers as small a target as possible, and gurad ourselves as best we can.

Scott: Check your system - is the strength too high or low? If its too low, then your aerial system is at fault.
You can check yourself the state of transmitters etc by putting in your postcode to the my UK free.tv settings. This will bring up lots of info.

Roy Brown: We've had them in store for the past month - nice to get some sort of review on them. Good to see they still have RCA's on the back (like hens teeth now), but the comment that 'it had been hit with an ugly stick' is true! Interesting to see what Humax do with their own version.

Fiona: Since, as you point out, there are no problems with the transmitter, so it has to be your aerial system. Start with the obvious - has the aerial lead fallen out of the back? Then trace the cable as far up as you can. If the aerial is in the roof, you can check it, and obviously make sure that any boosters, etc are working. And then call someone out...you might want to look at this thread to make sure your not ripped off...
What price for an aerial installation?
