David Parker,
I fully agree with jb38 and Mark Fletcher, this item is quite obviously 'unfit for purpose'. Do please ask for a refund and, as jb38 suggests,.."Should by any chance the source you purchased it from be a bit reluctant to give you a refund, then I would advise you to mention trading standards".
As I stated on 7th March .."Yes, please do google and select AV Forums. I can not say anything on here about what I found as a certain supermarket chain may want to sue, but DO have a read, it's very enlightening".
I would also suggest doing a bit of review reading and general research about various products before you decide on what to buy to replace this useless kit.
Hope all works out for you, Ron.

David Parker,
Sadly few people are 'any good' with this modern stuff as it is all surface mount tech. Gone are the days of simply changing an EL34 when the audio went tits up. The old stuff was inefficient as far as power was concerned, i.e. "switch off the heating I'm putting the telly on, it'll be warm enough", but at least you had something you could get your pliers and soldering iron into.

David Parker,
Well done on the deal, at least you got some compo for the messing about you had to do haha.
I suggest having a quick 'Google' on the Alba unit first, to see what, if anything, has been posted.
It's always worth a bit of research these days because it is so easy online.
Best of luck and glad you got your refund.

Please read before you buy. It could save you more frustration.

Alba STB300HD - don't buy this set-top box
Which? tests have revealed serious problems with the Alba STB300HD Freeview HD set-top box, available from high-street retailer Argos.
Three shop-bought samples of this set-top box failed during Which? testing at our Which? labs. Based on our findings, we'd advise you to avoid buying this model.

Joseph K,
I have no reception probs from Emley Moor. You are in Bradford, there are various relays for Emley, (around 56 I think) what part of Bradford? are you tuning to Idle or Bramley or another? Could you state your postcode which will help the guys on here to pinpoint where the best signal will come from for your location.

Sharealam,
No doubt this will be another 24/7 advertising channel with the odd snippet of 1960's telly chucked in to try keep us interested.
Dont know if anyone else noticed, but there are a growing number of 'Teleshopping' channels these days. It's becoming painful.

Jo, If you were getting the analogue channels on a set top aerial then you should also be able to get freeview. Tell the guys on here what type, model no and make of freeview box you are using. It could be that the box only operates on 2k mode. If this is the case it will be useless, you need one which is compatible with the new 8k mode transmissions.

David Parker,
You have followed their advice and nothing is changed, so if the unit proves to be faulty, you should be entitled to a replacement. If the unit does not come up as faulty, I would think that you should be allowed a refund or exchange for something which is fit for purpose. Even if you have to pay a little more for better spec. equipment, it is still a better option than the bin.
Regards, Ron.
