I am in Swansea and my aerial is pointed at and I manually tune to it as there are too many other transmitters I would pick up otherwise. My box (a Humax HDR FOX -T2 PVR) prompted a retune the other day, which I did. All was fine. I noticed yesterday that a few channels has dissappeared. BBC4 HD, BBC News HD, Parliament channel and some others. So I reset the box, retuned and they reappeared....but only until I turned the box off (into standby). As soon as I boot back up the channels have gone again.

I rescan (com 8) and 31 (com 7) and the channels reappear...but only until the next time I put the PVR into standby. This site shows available channels as:
COM7 HD - ch 31
ARQ B - ch 39
BBC A - ch 41
SDN - ch 42
D3&4 - ch 44
ARQ A - ch 45
BBC B HD - ch 47

So com 8 (c37) isn't there...so is that correct? Has there been some change that I am unaware of? Any would be very much appreciated.

Turns out it was a firmware related issue. And it's been sorted now, everything working as it should.

Reason 5:

Women who don't have anything to do with the setup and installtion of PVRs and TVs don't care a jot about HD...in my experience. I'll come in sometimes and find my wife watching an SD channel when there is an HD one available. It irks me because it is obvious to me even at my age, and also I know that the TV and the PVR will prompt to watch the HD channel when there is one....simply by pressing OK. She just ignores that. My friend's wife is exactly the same.

Reason 6:

The great HD con. Force everyone to go , encourage them to ditch their CRTs in favour of newer HD flat screen teles (not even 'full HD' at the time), and bang on about HD is incredible....but then don't broadcast very much in HD... and charge a premium for the privilege of watching HD on other pay . A big con if there was ever one. Okay, I'm glad CRTs have all but gone but only because of the space saving...but I have to say that wasn't ever an issue on CRTs in my experience, and now SD on HD TVs is rubbish compared to broadcasts on CRT sets...so I beg to differ about SD not being too bad on good, modern 'FULL HD' TVs. I think SD often looks worse than on CRT...and not all channels are equal either.

HD is superior of course, and I'll choose that any day, but with broadcasters getting away with creating a two tier service by making SD free and HD premium it's it.
