The Freesat Streams are mapped to every Freesat service in the Program Map Table of the service.
The PMT is a list of the streams that comprise the program and corresponds to the components list helpfully given in the ASTRA EIT.
The streams are streams of packets with the same Packet ID or PID, each consisting of a 4 byte header that indicates the PID and a 184 byte payload.
The Freesat Streams PIDs can have any value so stream descriptors are used to indicate a stream is a Freesat Streams and the kind of stream it is.
Unfortunately, something has gone awry with the three ITV HD transport streams such that these descriptors are missing for FSAT EIT pf and FSAT NIT.
link to this comment |
The three ITV HD transponders that had missing descriptors for some Freesat streams are now fixed.
These are the Freesat stream PIDs as indicated by the stream descriptors:
transport_stream_id = 2063
11052.75 H
fsatPids
eit = 3842
eitpf = 3843
nit = 3840
sdt/bat = 3841
tdt/tot = 3844
transport_stream_id = 2064
11067.50 V
fsatPids
eit = 3842
eitpf = 3843
nit = 3840
sdt/bat = 3841
tdt/tot = 3844
transport_stream_id = 2066
11097.00 V
fsatPids
eit = 3842
eitpf = 3843
nit = 3840
sdt/bat = 3841
tdt/tot = 3844
The streams that had missing descriptors were eitpf - used for recording by running status, and the nit - which contains a descriptor pointing to FreesatHome
This evidently led to failure to record and failure to load the EPG on boot up off FreesatHome.
What is curious is that it apparently did not affect all boxes.
It could be the case that the Freesat stream PIDs are now fixed, so the descriptors are only needed by legacy Freesat devices.
It is a fact that, at this time, the only transponders with different Freesat stream PIDs are these:
transport_stream_id = 2108
11265.00 V
fsatPids
eit = 3844
eitpf = 3841
nit = 3843
sdt/bat = 3842
tdt/tot = 3840
transport_stream_id = 2024
12168.00 V
fsatPids
eit = 3841
eitpf = 3842
nit = 3840
sdt/bat = 3844
tdt/tot = 3843
The Freesat services carried 12168.00 V are:
BBC ONE So HD [BBC One South HD]
CNBC
ITV1 HD [Central West]
Channel 4 HD [Midlands]
Channel 4 HD [North]

Thought this worth mentioning as there could be consequences for recordings scheduled at or around this date and time:
The current ASTRA Time Offset Table has "Time Of Change" from GMT to BST as "31/03/2024 00:00:00"
Other platforms show this as -
Freesat: "31/03/2024 01:00:00"
Freeview "31/03/2024 01:00:00"

Chris.SE:
A transport stream sample from last year shows the ASTRA/BSkyB Time Of Change to have been "26/03/2023 00:59:59".
Looks as though they are uncertain as to when exactly the event occurs.
Perhaps they are trying to work around a firmware bug.
A picture showing the Time Offset Table on the BSkyB default transponder, Freesat Home transponder and the BBC B multiplex can be seen here:

nick horrex:
The transponder that the Freesat Sky News is on happens to rank 55th out of 60 in terms of link margin, with a value of 5.1, according to recent scans of 28E with one of my satellite TV cards.
Link margin is the excess, in dB, of signal to noise ratio over that required for error free reception.
Thus, under unfavorable conditions such as rain, blockage by trees etc., that transponder would be one of the first to go.
If Sky News is your requirement then you could, perhaps, manually tune to 11837H in non Freesat mode, where you will find the ROI version. That transponder also carries the Freesat channels Together TV and Challenge - its link margin is much better at 9.9dB - ranking 11th out of 60.

No, not known. All that is supposedly known is the beam used for transponder - UK or Europe.
Astra 2E / Astra 2F / Astra 2G (28.2E) - All transmissions - frequencies - KingOfSat
Do you receive 164 Together TV and 146 Challenge without error?
They are on:
11837H 27500 5/6 DVB-S QPSK
which also carries Sky News ROI on BSkyB
and which, on my system at least, has a much better SNR than:
12071H 27500 5/6 DVB-S QPSK
which carries 147 Sky Arts and 202 Sky News.
What hardware are you using for satellite?

Assuming it's an HDS-600RS
A search for 'HDS-600RS "Manual scan"' brought me to:
https://www.avforums.com/…ge-2
where this post:
https://www.avforums.com/…7736
says:
"To view non- freesat channels on the Echostar, first you have to add the required channels as follows.
Main menu - Settings - Tuning - Manual scan.
Enter the frequency, symbol rate, LNB polorisation, etc. Then select scan.
You can only scan one transponder at a time.
When you have finished, do the following.
Main menu - Settings - Tuning - Viewing Mode, and select Non- Freesat mode, then press Exit.
Press OK to view the channel list. Channel numbers start at 5000.
As you can see, non- freesat mode is a bit of a pain on this receiver."

A young fellow over on DS was asking what the b2 descriptor in the ASTRA SDT contained.
Well, it contains BSkyB huffman-coded channel info, as in:
https://www.sendspace.com/file/q6rg8q
which may actually be useful to FTA sat viewers.
note: I hacked it myself!

The slashless CRIDs are back.
If the "uklocal.tv" part was removed they would be ok.
They seem to have appeared on 27 June.

Some D3&4 errors are now fixed.

This is off Winter Hill which is rather unusual in transmitting three Local Multiplexes.
I think the above are likely missing because they each have the same SID in each multiplex.
On the Liverpool Multiplex, only TalkLiverpool is in the D3&4 EIT.
On the Manchester Multiplex, only That's TV is in the D3&4 EIT.
All services in the Preston Multiplex are present in the D3&4 EIT.
