We have two aerial's one on each chimney connecting to two separate boosters (one of which was fitted 3 years ago) We can only get BBC. We have sky but this is only connected to the downstairs televisions. Please do you have any ideas?

Hi Dave,
I tried channel 44 and the signal strength was poor. We have six tv's as we are a guest house. There are two separate aerials and two separate boosters which have worked fine for 4 years until the last few weeks! Unfortunately the aerials are on the chimneys so they are really high up - nobody will go up to check without scaffolding. As I said earlier, we have sky on the downstairs tv's but they work fine! I guess this is because it is from the sky aerial?

jb38: Thank you. I tried BBC and it shows 37 per cent signal strength. ITV is showing 31 per cent. (Bad or no signal) Not sure what make of boosters as they are under the floorboards and carpet. What I can't understand is that they were all working fine until a few weeks ago. We lost a huge tree over the road from us in February so this should in theory make the signal stronger!

jb38: Thank you so much for taking the time to reply in such detail to my post, it is very much appreciated. We will have to investigate further. The sky 'engineer' that I spoke to said I should have digital aerials, he said he would come and look when he was passing next time. (It's embarrassing though to tell our guests they can only watch two channels - just like the old days lol!) OOps

MikeP: Thank you Mike. You just don't know what to believe from whom these days, especially when you haven't got a clue yourself about aerials or satellite. I'll follow the advice given and hopefully get somewhere eventually.

Hi guys
Well here is the latest, if you have read my previous posts, many thanks for the replies. Aerial guy came round and assessed one of the aerials as he cannot get to the other one without going on the roof. He came back today when I wasn't here and told my husband that we need a digital aerial in the roof space and need to change all the co-axial cables to go to the new aerial. This would mean taking the carpets, sound proofing underlay and floorboards up all over the house to change the cable. This is obviously a huge task to undertake as we have six televisions. Whilst he was here he did a test holding an aerial outside the front door and said the signal was alright, hence the reason he checked the aerial. He also said that the boosters may be too strong! The tv,s have all worked find for the last 3 years so I really don't understand the problem. Previous experts have mentioned about the digital aerial not being required. Should I get a second opinion. (Not easy where we live though).
All ideas much appreciated to quickly solve my problem.

Last question!
If I have a new aerial placed in the loft, can I use the existing co-axial cable to join up with the old amplifiers/boosters? If not then I would have to take up carpets, underlay and floorboards to place new cable which will be a nightmare!
Many thanks for previous replies.

Hi We have a b & b and inherited the system we have which is an aerial on each side of the house on the chimneys. The leads are fed to two separate boosters (one of which I have had installed). We have 6 tv's which are less than 4 years old and all have freeview and the problem is that we can only get BBC channels.
We have a sky dish which goes to the tv's in the lounge and dining room but this is separate to the guest rooms. Any ideas what the problem may be?
