Samuel Kayes:

Which way is your aerial pointing? If it's about 9 degrees S of Due E, then you are pointing at the Black Hill transmitter which Freeview predicts is your most likely transmitter, if its pointing about 5 degrees E of Due S, it's pointing at the Darvel transmitter, which whilst still predicted to give you good reception is not predicted to be quite as reliable as Black Hill.

I can find no faults currently listed for either transmitter and Freeview are reporting no outages for Black Hill. Neither transmitter is currently listed for Planned Engineering, however Black Hill was listed for the previous two weeks and we know the lists aren't always 100% reliable. My guess is that there is still some work ongoing at Black Hill and this is why you experienced the problem. Your channels should now have returned.

Rita Saville-Stones:

There are over 1100+ TV transmitters in the UK, some have occasional faults, quite a few will be have Planned Engineering which can see signals temporarily on lower power or briefly interrupted.
To be able to advise, we need a full postcode to see what your predicted reception might be and which transmitter(s) you may/should be receiving.

All:

It seems the damaged mast at Bilsdale was brought down earlier today by controlled explosion.

That's from a tweet richardo on Twitter: "Well that`s Bilsdale transmitter down,,,... "

Yes it looked a very neat and well done job. I wonder how far away you could hear it coming down!

Have your signals returned to normal?
I can't find any faults currently listed for Llanddona (that doesn't mean there weren't any) and it's not listed for Planned Engineering.

If your problems continue, you may of course have a problem with your aerial installation with water getting into the aerial connections and/or coax. Such problems can affect a single multiplex but ultimately are likely to affect them all. Check the signal levels in your TV tuning section to see if other multiplexes are affected.

ROGER CULLINGHAM:

Recent (and some current) weather conditions can cause TV signals from distant transmitters to travel further and so cause interference when the wanted signal from a local transmitter is already marginal, which could be part of what is happening with you.

The fundamental problem with you is that the aerial is not pointing at (or even nearly at) the transmitter and even in a valley that will cause you to have a weaker signal than could be available!!
Your location is only 5km from Caradon Hill and whilst reception predictors aren't always 100% accurate, Freeview's does not predict reception from any other transmitter and suggests very good reception from Caradon Hill.

Your aerial should be pointing at a bearing of 234 degrees for your locale (approx. marginally S of WSW) and the rods (or squashed Xs) should be horizontal.
I suggest you look into repositioning your aerial!

Just to add to what has been said, as you may know LCN51 is carried on Local multiplexes and there isn't one at Caradon Hill, they are only broadcast from a limited number of main transmitters serving large urban populations, the signal is lower power and in most cases beamed towards those specific urban areas.
See Channel listings for Industry Professionals | Freeview for which channels are carried on which multiplexes.

Also the channel listings towards the top of this page haven't been updated since the 700MHz Clearance programme, both COMs 7&8 closed at Caradon Hill on 19th June 2019.

Joyce Mary Mayhew:

I presume you are talking about Freeview reception? As you haven't provided a full postcode, we have no idea which transmitter(s) and multiplexes you may be able to receive (there's 1100+ in the UK). Transmitters have Planned Engineering, or develop faults, so without knowing which one you receive it's not possible to advise.

You may also have developed a fault on your aerial system or the leads behind your set. Certain types of faults can noticeably just affect a single multiplex, others multiplexes may appear to be unaffected but may nevertheless have reduced signal.
