Which transmitter are you using? If you are using Winter Hill, on a bearing of 288 degrees horizontal, then you should have all the channels as that transmitter provides all the multiplexes in use. If you are using Lees (at 163 degrees), North Oldham (at 295 degrees) or Brook Bottom (at 147 degrees) - all Freeview Lite and vertical polarization - then as they do not transmit all the services you will not get Vintage TV.
Check where your aerial is aimed and whether the small rods are fitted vertically or horizontally. If your aerial is aimed at Winter Hill, can you get BBC1 HD and channel 101? If not then your TV is not equipped with an HD tuner (DVB-T2 type).

Please provide a full post code so that we can see the reception conditions for your exact area.
Room/Set-top aerials rarely work if you are more than a couple of miles from a large main transmitter, despite what reviews on eBay or any other sales website might say.

Further to that said by StevensOnln1, most main transmitters use horizontal polarisation whilst most smaller 'relay' transmitters use vertical polarisation. It is nothing at all to do with who the service provider is but more to do with available frequencies and preventing interference between signals on similar frequencies. In general, vertically and horizontally polarised signals do not regularly interefere with each other.
When considering purely local transmissions aimed at a specific area only, such as Southampton for example, use of the vertical polarisation allows tighter control of the area served and hence reduces the chance i=of causing interference to other areas and/or services.

Hi Briantist:
Once again I have not received the daily email of new posts on your website. After the recent 'outage' of these, you kindly restarted them and they generally arrived at about 10.03. Today - nothing!
So I have entered my email address in the field provided about an hour ago and have still not received the email expected.

With a communal aerial system the only people who can deal with any problems are the owners or their managing agents. So you need to keep contacting them until they have the system properly checked by an aerial contractor. If you were to engage your own, they almost certainly refuse permission for them to access the system and will refuse to pay for it.
As you are apparently in a block of flats you cannot install, or have installed, your own aerial anywhere on the building with the permission of the building owner and you may need planning permission for an additional aerial.
Not knowing where you live, it is impossible to advise about which is the most likely transmitter for you to use. If you enter a full post code into this website you will get 6 small blue boxes below your posts containing links to useful reception information.
All I can advise otherwise is to keep talking to your landlord or their agents.
