Firstly, give a full postcode so we contributors can determine which transmitter would be preferred and what the reception conditions are like. Without that information we would only be guessing and possibly wrong.

Without a full post code we could not identify which transmitter you might be using. However, many of the transmitters, or have been, are without power so were not radiating TV signals. With a postcode would find out if that is relevant to you.

If you look at Full service Freeview transmitters it will show that you need a Wide Band aerial set for vertical polarisation signals.A log-periodic aerial would be ideal as that will be suitable for all foreseeable transmissions predicted currently up until around 2020.

I'm not aware of any French language channels broadcast in the UK. So the only possibility might be to find any French service available via the internet. I suspect that TF1 might be available via streaming and possibly others.

To find out if there have been any changes we need a full postcode. From that we can determine which transmitter you might be using and any particular reception problems there may be, it is not possible without that.

I suggest you contact a local aerial contractor to have your aerial system checked - at a cost.

As you are using a communal aerial, you did the right thing by contacting the responsible authority. Have you checked with your neighbours using the same aerial system whether they have the same problems? If they are then that would suggest an aerial problem. If they are not them you ought to check the signal cables in your flat first, best done by replacing then one at a time. If all is still the same then you may have a TV fault.

To be able to offer any advice we definitely need a full post code of where you live (or that of a very nearby post office or shop). Only then can we determine which transmitter you might be using and hence whether there are any known problems.
If you live in a building with a communal aerial, ask your neighbours whether they have the same problem - worth doing that even if you have your own aerial. If a communal and others have the same problem then contact the managing agents to get it put right. If your own aerial and neighbours are not getting the problem then you may have an equipment fault, so please tell us what equipment you use (make and model at least).

A full post code will help contributors to this site determine what might be happening, the first part of a post code is far too large an area to be useful especially in a hilly area such as some parts of Leeds. Are others around you have the same problem?
