We contributors know that the site owner has other commitments and there is a need for further updating of several details. If you require details of transmitters and the channels used, please go to the Digital UK Coverage Checker - that's one of the sources we use.

You are just 4 km from the Beacon Hill transmitter and the Clennon Valley transmitter is right next door to you. So you either have too much signal or a problem with your aerial or cables. Start by checking the channels you are tuned to and cross reference that with the Digital UK coverage Checker at Coverage Checker - Detailed View In the detailed view mode it will show you the channels used by both transmitters.

Then check the signal strengths being shown. Ideally that should be between 60% and 85% on all channels. If they are higher than that you need to fit an attenuator, search this website for 'Too much of a good thing'

Finally, check all your aerial cables and connections, unplugging all coaxial plugs/sockets and refitting.

You should try a 3dB one first and if that is not sufficient then try a 6dB one. I'm not a fan of the variable types as they seem to be uncertain quality.

There has not been any change in the output power of any transmitter - they cannot be turned up or down at all. Only during engineering work are there ever any changes and only for the duration of the work. That is for the health and safety of the engineers working up the masts.

It may be but there are things to check first.

Start by checking that the F connectors are all fitted correctly and that there are no stray filaments of the outer touching the inner conductor. Do that check on all the connectors. Then use an F coupler to join the aerial feed cable to just one of the TV feed cables and check the signal strength for all multiplexes on that TV. Then do the check connected to the other TV without the splitter.

I that all works, then connect both TVs again using the splitter - ensuring that all the connections are perfect again. Then check both TVs.

If all is working then the problem was oxidation on the contacts - it happens more often than people realise. If all is not working then it is likely to be a fault in the splitter. Make sure you never try to use the splitter with just one outlet connected - they are designed to have all outlets in use to ensure there is the correct impedance matching.

The see all the planned chanes please go to the Digital UK Covergae checker, put in your full post code and house number, select the Detailed View and press Enter. In the page that appears, scroll dow to see the Mendip details (I'm assuming they will appear) and look at the entries for that transmitter. It will list the current usage as well as the proposed changes over the next few years.

Water pumping stations do not cause the sort of problems you are experiencing, unless there is a serious electrical fault with their equipment. The operators would be able to check.

Neither a filter nor a booster would help unless you are close to another type of transmitter. The channels used by Winter Hill are very unlikely to be affected by 4G signals which are in the 800 MHz range, well away from Freeview signals. A booster is never needed unless the signal strength is low, so check on the manual tuning page what the strengths are - but DO NOT RETUNE. Ideally you should have between 60% and 85%, both less and more is likely to give problems.

So do some careful checks and report back, please?
