I think what ian.notts's lady had paid for was the help service for digital switching for old/disabled people, which indeed charges £40, payable in advance, to provide "whatever you need" to get Freeview.
If that is a new rooftop high gain and an amp; that is what they should provide. Is that what you provided? And I think they provide satellite if no Freeview possible. It is also an option for £56 instead of £40.
Phone 0800 40 85 912. The old lady should have a 10 digit Customer Reference Number.

IIRC the Switchover Help Scheme is paid for out of the License fee. Which is no longer just for the BBC, so even more clearly a tax.
Totally free is if you are on income related benefits like Income Support.
I know about it because we have a disabled son, who gets it.
So I am setting them on the kitchen TV, which JUST achieves analogue with its wire loop angled at the window that faces the Wrekin. I think they will need a new roof-top ae - 3 stories up. Walls 2 foot thick. Listred. Conservation area!

I crossed with Brian's last post.
Not wishing to argue, but the paperwork says, in big letters,
"BBC (logo) The Switchover Help Scheme is run by the BBC."

But predict NOT strong enough prior to September I presume.
Frank - have you tried an amplifier? Notwithstanding the arguments that they also amplify noise, I KNOW from experience that they can make a critical difference with a poor signal!

SW Surely it is more advanced NOT to have to make a physical connection to EVERY property in the country

Mike - does that apply to all or a lot of the changeover power increases? Are they, then, a sham?
This modulating just a bit of a wave seems very sneaky anyway!

More advance than "IPTV through FTTH"
Which I am guessing means "Internet Protocol TV through Fibre To The Home"

thodkin - I get them both OK with an unamplified rooftop ae in Chirk. What are you using?
If you are actually in Llan I presume the hills get in the way. Do you have neighbours? I know a good local tv ae man if you need.

According to this you can get Cefn Mawr with a coat hanger. Have you tried?
Do you, or does Brian, know WHY they duplicate the frequencies? I know V/H and different directions, but when very close to the sender not surprising it wins.
Are you up the hill on the North side of the river, if you have good line of sight?
I am S end of Chirk - LL14 5HD (LL145HD)

Tom - I think the othrs are more expert than I am, but as I understand Log Periodics they are a variant of the Yagi in which different elements perform different functions at different frequencies. So the elemnet behind whichever one resonates at the desired frequency plays reflector.
