Stephen Worthington: You will be able to use YouView next year.
You won't get a decent service from The Wrekin after switchover.
I would use Freesat HD as you will get a perfect service.

Re Wrekin Transmitter. I note from your web site that not all channels will benefit from a power increase in the April 2011 switchover.
"Arqiva multiplexes will remain on their pre-switchover frequencies and powers"
Will these have increased power in September? If so what to?
I live in the Tern Valley at Market Drayton and despite an aerial upgrade, most of the non-BBC channels are either unwatchable of suffer continuous pixelation. I was hoping these would improve with the switchover.

Frank Beckwith: the Digital UK prediction for your postcode shows that the signal level, relative to interference, should be sufficient to receive the ArqA and ArqB multiplexes after September.

But predict NOT strong enough prior to September I presume.
Frank - have you tried an amplifier? Notwithstanding the arguments that they also amplify noise, I KNOW from experience that they can make a critical difference with a poor signal!

Thank you for the responses. Steve, yes I have a masthead amp and an amplified distributor - we have 3 TV's. The aerial fitter said we had the best aerial (highest gain) he could supply as well.
I suppose I'm really curious to know what the mux power outputs will be come post September. If these are unable to give a decent reception we'll have to consider Freesat instead.

Frank Beckwith: The PSB muxes will be 20kW from switchover, as shown above and the COM muxes will be 10kW from September (following switchover at Sutton Coldfield). That represents a ten fold increase in power.According to the Digital UK postcode checker you are not currently expected to receive MUXC and MUXD.This is not really the result of low transmitter power, more a case of the signals being blocked by transmissions to Wales which currently use the same frequencies. No amount of amplification will give reception on C53 and C57 in these circumstances.

Frank Beckwith, KMJ: Digital UK's ALmanac document for Bromsgrove-Lark Stoke-The Wrekin shows that Arqiva A and B will increase to 2kW on 20 April.

This is really only enough of an increase to offset the higher signal-to-noise ratio required by the mode change (64QAM 2/3 requires 3-4 dB more than 16QAM 3/4 - 3dB is a doubling in power). The coverage area won't increase, but it won't shrink either. (RG47SH)

Mike - does that apply to all or a lot of the changeover power increases? Are they, then, a sham?
This modulating just a bit of a wave seems very sneaky anyway!
