Freeview reception - all about aerials | Installing

Nadia - As you know but others may not, Crystal Palace did phase 1 of switchover on 4 April and will switch off an alogue on 18th.

Also others may not know that in much of London no aerial at all was needed for analogue TV.

I switched to digital in Herne Hill SE24 9QP a few days ago. It is a very good location facing XtalPal and your W2 may be more obscured by buildings depending how high you are and where you face.

I was able to detect digital with no aerial at all, but it was jerky on viewing some channels. I simply connected a fly lead and now all is perfect. You will probably find that almost anything metal stuck in the central pin of the aerial socket will do the job - or go wild and buy an indoor aerial.

Then autotune and you should get the lot.

Do tell how it goes as many others will probably be in same boat.

I found newspaper reports off the London switchover rather annoying. The other 50 million of us switched unnoticed!

Jo - Ron is probably correct, but if you post your full postcode we will confirm it.

Liz - are you entirely clear on the difference between satellite TV and Freeview?

If not, say so!

If you are, what exactly are you trying to do which is new? Presumably Sky installed their kit?

Brian - I agree re waiting, but Einstein would perhaps have considered changed conditions - like propagation and new Tx being fine tuned.

Heisenberg himself would have been uncertain.

Did you look under the carpet?

If you give a few clues where you are and what you did and why and what you had before it will be a start.

Mrs B - I presume you are in the London region that started changing on 4 April and switches analogue off tomorrow - which I think means from midnight tonight.

So try retunung tomorrow when the digital signal will be stronger.

Meridian is part switched, if that is what you use. You should have had a booklet through the door appropriate for where you are.

John - you are in the London region I think so will have to do a full retune today as the analogue has gone and the digital moved and got more poewerful

Let us know if it works

Relays provide a signal to places missed by the main transmitters - typically valleys across the direction of the signal.

Nikki - or ANYONE - London finalised its changeover today so you DO need to retune - and they may spend some time finalising things esp. with relays.

Andy - have you ever received digital signals? What are you using for an aerial? What is your postcode?

JRS - Have you retuned today? You will need to.

Looke as if there are local issues in HH which I do not know. Which are you using? The main CPal, or one of the HH relays, which do not do all multiplexes?
