Newry

Ch50 HD reception has been a problem from day one at this location, and I believe interference from Wales may be the cause.
The aerial is group B/V,line of sight(I can literally see IOM.)SD Ch43 and 46 100% sig.strength and quality.Have moved aerial several times, tried attenuation, mast head amps etc.At present aerial is panned about 5 degrees North west of Tx and no amp in use.
Best results so far,but HD still weak ,and no or little sig quality.
RTE coming in full strength from 3 Rock on Ch 54 DVB-T,and HD.

Newry

Thanks JmF for taking an interest.
Postcode for some reason is Newry, actual location is Analong.I am told on Boards.ie that Clarmont Carn will be blocked in a Northerly direction until UK DSO,and I find Ch,53 CD/V quite so.
Any signals from Wales seem to be greatly dependent on prop/trop conditions, and would drive you quite mad.
Have been banging on about the IOM difficulties since S/O back in Oct.I think, and the subject was well discussed on "Help with Freeview across the sea in S.Down.Have tried many interesting suggestions ,but to no avail, some work carried out back in May at the Tx made things worse from this perspective.
Have had no problems with DVB-T from 3 rock or Kippure on Ch 54 c/d /H,seems a more robust system of transmission than UK Freeview HD,with its interference problems?

Thanks for the info, best IOM HD sig.yet, today C/N 43 ish.Seems to be stable, but we have been here before, only to loose everything just before the credits roll.
RTE 3 Rock or Kippure romping in on Ch.58 with HD and "future" test cards, radio and HD images. No amp required from this location.
Nothing from C/Carn I am told until 2012,alas,although I picked up Cairn Hill RTE HD in Castlewellan. Not reliable but interesting on a Tesco STB for £30.

Hi Jm F
Took your advice and a Log periodic has much improved things here. The fact that it comes with a very large deflector seems to improve C/N.Guess the interference on Ch50 is coming from the rear.Thanks.

Slightly embarresed to relate I was in Macro in Belfast, and picked up a "One for All?"Think its Log?
Aerial,clamps ,lots of good co-ax,for £20.
Also found two STB at £10 each!
They are similar to the Tesco Tecknica box and work on BBC anfd RTE HD (DVB T and T2)
Am just checking the IOM Ch 50 Sig and it seems to have improved remarkably, but for how long?.I am line of sight almost with RTE Tx at Carlingford,Clarmont Carn Ch 53 V.
But it is, we are told severly nulled to the North until UK DSO.More likely to be interference from Wales?

Thank you for putting me right on the Log Periodic front.I have a log band 111 on Dab,works well N and S.
Sig strength at this local,no problem on IOM (can see it out the window.
The Deflectors make a big difference on the 1 for all, best so far ,without going to more expence for the friend who lives here.
Have been at this DVB-T2 ,HD reception interference prob since IOM s/o back in Oct.
Getting there, but no doubt more fun ahead for all in N.Ireland rural areas. Thanks again.

IOM HD.
If you want it to work, look behind you, point the front of your aerial away from your Tx,drop the height. It all works ,after doing all the "Right things "for months.
I suppose you would start out by trying to get the max signal out of the nearby relay, and low SD 100%.HD Ch50 zero.
As you pointed out the nice people in Wales have a big Tx on Ch 50,long way off,but coming in the back of the Yagi.
Problem solved by concentrating on the Deflector position, not the active element at all,in fact point it well away from IOM.
I do believe the change of aerial made a big difference, may try removing the amp next!
Thanks for your input,HD fans beware.
