Glanville Carleton: Or to add to what Mike Dimmick has said, just go into the TV's "edit channels menu" and delete everything you see with a BBC tag, excluding of course HD channels if used, then once done go into the tuning menu / manual tune entering Sandy's (Anglia) BBC Mux on Ch27 then click "search", maybe called scan dependant on device being used, and this should populate the EPG list again but with channels from Anglia.

barry lloyd: Firstly, as your query concerns a reception issue then you really have to state your location and with this preferably in the form of a post code for accuracy, as this would not only enable the freeview signal strength expected at your location to be assessed but also details the transmitting station that covers your area.

Secondly, maybe you could indicate the model number of the PVR in question, as there is a number of these devices in existence that has problems dealing with certain characteristics concerning the transmitting channels being used by some stations.

Willie: The indications you report are inclined to suggest that you are experiencing two different problems, one of something that numerous people suffer from, being difficulty in receiving COM 5/6, but there is no reason whatsoever for not receiving BBC1 unless its because of an excessively strong signal, which is possible dependant on aerial being used as Sudbury is only 12 miles away.

However to simplify things I suggest that you carry out a factory reset (called default setting on some brands) on the LG followed by an auto-tune, as when dealing with any odd problems that occurs on digital equipment its best to start afresh.

If after carrying out the above its still the same, then should it be possible to borrow a set top aerial then purely for a test carry out another factory reset followed by another auto-tune, giving an update on results.

stephanie: As your query concerns reception its impossible for anyone to advise unless your location is known, preferably in the form of a post code, as that enables the signal levels expected in your area to be assessed.

Jay: Assuming by what you say that you are presently using the Sony TV to view analogue programmes and that you are wishing to continue recording programmes only from the Virgin box, then you simply connect a scart lead from the Humax box to the spare scart socket on the TV, taking its aerial lead out as its no longer required and transferring it over to the aerial socket Humax.

Apart from doing that everything else should be the same, although you will have to use the input selector menu on the Sony TV to switch its scart input to the socket number used by the Humax.

One point though that maybe you could clarify, when you say "digital" when referring to the DVD/VCR recorder are you meaning that it has a Freeview tuner? and it would be of assistance to have knowledge of your location (pref: post code) for purposes of assessing the signal level expected in your area.

Ty Fairclough: Even the most experienced of dish installers would not be able to detect a dish being a fraction out of alignment as they are so highly critical and can lose a signal with even the merest of nudges.

If you wish to persevere with attempting to align the dish then you should purchase one of these simple devices that you will find advertised for this purpose in various places, particularly e-bay, these devices giving an audible indication of a signal as well as a visual one, either via a row of LED's and other types a meter.

The biggest mistake made by most people when using these devices is "not" doing things in slow motion, plus another commonly made mistake when sweeping across in the horizontal plane from left to right is accidentally stopping on the 19.2 position rather than 28.2, as there is barely a faction of a difference between each position.

The secret of success is to allocate at least about 20 minutes or so time for the job, and its also of considerable assistance that if its at all possible to view the TV whilst doing the job, then set the box on its signal strength / quality indicator screen and give the dish a final trim whilst viewing the results.

PS: Remember that the LNB is not positioned on the dish sitting perfectly straight, but is turned slightly clockwise to roughly just past the one o'clock position. (called Skew setting)

Jay: I suspected that might be the case, my reason for enquiring basically concerning the method you are using to feed the aerial into the various devices, because looping in / out of one device to feed another can cause problems if a signal is not of the best strength and is hovering just above the reception threshold of the receiving device being used.

However, you have the choice of feeding the aerial directly into the Humax / looping through same and into the DVD/VCR, or of course vice-versa, but with the thing to remember being, that if any hitherto unseen glitches start to show up after having looped the aerial through any device then the only way to get over the problem is by purchasing a two way (or more) powered splitter, as this guarantees that each device receives the same signal.

mike Roberts: If I could just intrude with regards to your query, yes! under certain circumstances it could, but the only way you would know fr certain would be to enquire locally if anyone else has noticed the problem.

The other thing to keep in mind is that on going engineering work is in progress at the station, so there is the possibility of other problems cropping up now and again over the next week.

Ty Fairclough: just to clarify, when it say
"Even the most experienced of dish installers would not be able to detect a dish being a fraction out of alignment" etc, I am of course meaning in the visual sense.
