Dave Lindsay: Yes, that is also a possibility that cannot be discounted dependant on the signal levels being received, this being something that I was unable to check on as Digital UK's reception predictor appears to be having problems since late on yesterday evening, and with a check I made a short time ago indicating that the situation hasn't improved any.

David Rose: Unfortunately not, as the EPG used by the programme guide where you preset your recordings on is dedicated to each one of the six individual transmitter mux channel numbers used by the station, and of course all these numbers are changing starting by the very one that you require (BBC mux) on the 12th, and so anything set is lost.

Gordon Mowatt: Obviously try what has been suggested by Stephen P, but as far as only one of your TV's having problems is concerned, excluding any possibility of it having a defective aerial connection then the usual cause of this is simply because that the tuner in the set with the problem is less sensitive than the one fitted in the other TV as no two tuners are the same unless the TV's are of identical model numbers, and without knowledge of the method you are using to feed the aerial to both TV's it should really be done by using a two way powered splitter, as that guarantees the same level of signal to each TV plus gives the signal a slight boost.

Also, you should verify that both TV's are receiving from the same transmitter as they might not be as Blackhill and Craigkelly are both possible in your area (having previous knowledge of) this can be checked by carrying out a signal test starting on BBC1 because the mux (transmitter) channel number being received will (or should) be shown along with the strength / quality and this can be cross checked with the mux channel numbers used by both stations as listed below.

You should carry out this test on both TV's using "EPG programme" numbers 1 - 3 - 50 (if HD used) - 10 - 11 - 12, as that checks all six multiplexes used by each station, making a note of the strength / quality seen on each mux channel test and comparing the results between the TV's, as one of is liable to be lower than the other, giving an update on results, and when if necessary, further advice can be given.

Blackhills channels: 46 (BBC1) - 43 (ITV) - 40 (HD) - 41 (ITV3 etc) - 44 (Pick TV) - 47 (Yesterday)

Craigkelly (in same order) : 27 - 24 - 21 - 42 - 45 - 39

Jack Garside: If you have seen zero signal strength / quality being indicated when (if?) you pressed "services - 4 - 6" then this can be caused by either the dish having been knocked out of alignment, a coax / "F" connector problem, or that the LNB has developed a fault, although this would only usually affect one of the two channels used by the Sky+ box and so try a test by swapping the two input "F" connectors over, if still nothing then it could be that your box has developed a fault, and which in warm weather could be the usual of the power supply having failed. If though on the other hand when you had pressed the aforementioned the signal strength / quality "was" indicating but at only about 50% or so then the dish is only very slightly out of alignment, usually rectified by giving it a slight nudge on either its left or right hand side, as the normal levels are around 70%+. You should also check the settings on the LNB, although its unlikely that this would have changed. 1:- Press Sky followed by "Services". 2:- Highlight System Setup and press Select. 3:- Press 0 then 1 then Select. 4:- Press Select again to access the LNB setup screen. 5:- Press the "Red" button to re-set the default settings. 6:- Using the up/down arrows, highlight "Save New Settings" and press Select. 7:- Press Select to confirm that the settings have been reset. The correct settings are / Low frequency - 9.75. High Frequency- 10.60. The LNB power supply should always be set to on. The 22KHz Command should always be set to on.

Kt: Although I haven't tested this myself this is the information I have regarding how to receive Channel 5.
-----------------------
Frequencies have changed recently, and some Sky users who "have" Freesat viewing cards, may have found that they now get the message "NO SATELLITE SIGNAL". If this is the case, unplug the digibox from the mains, wait 2 minutes then re-plug, everything should be back to normal.

If you do "not" have a viewing card you can select Channel 5 by doing the following:

Press SERVICES on your remote control
Select (4) SYSTEM SET UP
Select (4) ADD CHANNELS
Change the frequency to 10.773
Change the POLARISATION fromV to H
Change the SYMBOL RATE to 22.0
Change the FEC to 5/6
then select FIND CHANNELS

When the new channels are found, highlight FIVE, press the Yellow button then press the SKY button.

To watch channel 5, select SERVICES, then 6 OTHER CHANNELS then select FIVE

Mark Fletcher: Digital UK's post code reception predictor (only this side of it) appears to have been down since yesterday evening, have you seen anything mentioned about this anywhere?

Winter Hill (Bolton, England) transmitter
Sunday 19 August 2012 12:20AM

Joe: Well if you can carry out this task yourself then you have nothing to lose by trying a few experiments, although unfortunately Digital UK's reception predictor is down and so its impossible at this present time to be able to assess the results you are liable to get by swinging your aerial around to Pendle Forrest, albeit that its not shown as being possible to receive on this sites terrain indicator, of course neither is Winter Hill!

However the differences between each of the stations are /

Pendle Forrest (100W full Freeview) located @ 12 miles 53 degrees (V) polarisation, (A) group aerial. BBC1 Ch28 / ITV1 Ch25.

Winter Hill (100Kw full Freeview) located at 7 miles 183 degrees (H) polarisation, (C/D) group aerial. BBC1 Ch62 / ITV1 Ch59.

Darwin (100W Freeview Light PSB only) located @ 4 miles 133 degrees (V) polarisation, (B) group aerial. BBC1 Ch45 / ITV1 Ch49.

BBC & ITV only mentioned to enable you to carry out a manual tuning test on each station, also if you have a wide band aerial (black blanking plug on end of elements support) then disregard the aerial groups given.

Mark Fletcher: Thanks Mark, yes I also noticed a few odd things cropping up yesterday, but I would be obliged if you could try a test by clicking on the "Digital UK tradeview" link at the right hand side of your posting, as I have just tried it and DUK states "Error - we seem to be having difficulties etc".

Mark Fletcher: Thanks for your confirmation on that, as when I didn't seen the problem being referred anywhere else I was starting to get a bit concerned in case the problem was at my end, and so when I noticed that you were on I thought I would take my chance and enquire.

Dave Lindsay: Thanks also for your confirmation of the problem, I just hope that Digital UK sorts it out soon as although the signal level info provided has always to be taken with the proverbial pinch of salt as its not quite so precise as it would appear, its still an excellent reference source and just like yourself is used continually by me also, as there is an element of "being in the dark" when trying to assess anything without it exactly in the same way as someone requesting assistance with a reception problem but failing to give their location.
