Parsley: Winter Hill is located near Bolton and so your aerial installer was mistaken when he made that comment as its roughly N/W of you.
Regarding your experiments, you will always "have" to use manual tuning for these type of tests as your local station will always take precedence over anything you are trying to receive, plus don't forget that the aerial has to be positioned horizontally for reception of anything other than the two local relay stations, namely Chinley and Ladderhill.

Craigywaigy2: Try a test code of WF4 1AS and that should result you receiving Yorkshire area TV, if not work then the box has to be defective as nothing external to it can cause the problem you are experiencing as the dishes LNB only determines the polarity of what is received and nothing else.
Sky and Freesat boxes work exactly the same as far as post codes are concerned, the only difference with Sky being that your post code area is coded into the Sky card and this being why only Sky can alter it, whereas with Freesat its the users choice to determine where they want their local news services to be from.

Craigywaigy2: Also meant to say that you should carry out a "first time install" on the box before entering the code, this info applicable to Goodmans Freesat PVR's as I am unaware of the model of Goodmans you are referring to.

Carole: Speaking as an engineer I think its quite appalling the way these devices are allowed to be advertised, as although it may well be perfectly worded in the legal sense in the moral sense it isn't, as even I who have been involved in this field for years have (on occasions) to check the spec of a device to know if its actually capable of HD reception or not.

Ken: Although I have not had any dealings with your model its to my belief that this constant auto tuning is a feature (albeit dubious!) of this model and cannot be turned off, ie: not one of Panasonic's best idea's as it shows a decided lack of foresight with regards to how their equipment is used in real life situations.

DouggieB: Well with devices such as the LT26 and its extremely limited range of set up tuning facilities as well as providing more detailed technical service information, your hands up to a point are tied as you seem to have carried out most of what would have been suggested.
When you say PSB2 is up in the 800 ranges is there anything at all being indicated on the EPG 3 position?

Sam: Well, although Craigkelly has been confirmed as the station you are receiving from it was really the signal levels (strength / quality) of the two (initially) channels in question that I was particularly interested in, as I suspect that your problem is likely being caused by the signal level received from Ch45 being under the reception threshold level of your TV, as indeed is possibly your own suspicion hence you having commented on an amplifier.
If your TV has a manual tuning facility you should carry out a signal level comparison check between Ch45 and either Ch42 or Ch39 as these three muxes all transmit on 10Kw whereas the three PSB's are 20Kw.
If its found (as is likley!) that Ch45 is a little lower than the other two then the item below is virtually guaranteed to cure the problem, and with it being a variable gain device you can set it for the best results.

Ken: Yes, sorry about that as it was a bit misleading, what I had meant was that this set constantly scans for updated DVB services and that this scanning aspect cannot be turned off, albeit that the message on the screen can.
However the various procedures you have used has obviously stabilised the set, but you are certainly adopting a wise policy by refraining from attempting any further retunes as it might well start the process all over again, an annoyance which I feel could have been caused by a software glitch and which may now have cleared, but one never knows!

Pauline Todd: You might be able to tell depending on whether or not the plate fitted is just modified standard type, and so look at the back of the plate where you see the coax from the wall being terminated and you can also see the rear of the output socket, if anything other than a normal wire is linking these two points mentioned then whatever (a capacitor) requires the device being bridged with a thin piece of wire, as that will then allow the eyes 9 volt supply to get through.
Important!! if on a communal satellite / aerial system then do NOT carry this procedure out.
