Joshua : No one can really give advice on this type of query without knowledge of either your post code or at least one from nearby, e.g: a shop, as only then can the reception predictor be accessed and which gives an idea of the signal levels expected at your location.

Derek: On the assumption that the DVD recorder has been verified as being OK by having been connected straight into the TV, could you please supply the brand / model number of the Sky box in question, and is it a Sky+ HD box or just Sky+?
The other point being that your Plasma TV appears to have only one scart socket, and so "if" your Sky box is and HD type connected via an HDMI lead into the TV's HDMI(1) input then the DVD recorder would require to use the TV's scart socket, this AV (ext) input being selected using the "source" button on your TV's remote control.
Further advice dependant on answers.

Mark: I am inclined to think that the only reason that you are presently receiving these extra channels is purely down to seasonal changes in atmospheric conditions, plus the possibility of vegetational changes haven taking place, this in the form of leaves falling from trees and which always improves signals being received should the signal path be anywhere near to passing over dense vegetation.
The reflective reasons as mentioned by Dave Lindsay always plays a role as well.
Needless to say I would refrain from altering anything, as the signal is very likely to vanish again.

Frustrated new mover: As your post code area is located at only 2 miles away from the Crystal Palace transmitter you should be able to receive a signal with the simplest aerial possible such as a set top type, as it should be appreciated that if a receiver is being overloaded by a grossly excessive level of signal HD reception will be the first to suffer, and indeed can blank out completely until the signal level is reduced.
If for a test you cannot borrow a set top aerial (not an amplified type) then try connecting a short length of wire (about 3 feet or so) into the middle receptacle of the TV's aerial socket and carry out another retune, giving an update on results.

Frustrated new mover: In addition to that already said, with reference to the 4 leads which you have said comes from the wall, are these terminated in "F" (screw type) connectors such as used by all satellite equipment? my only reason for enquiring being because of you linking these leads to the possibility of them being used by a satellite dish.
The other thing that maybe you could clarify on is with regards to the aerial in the loft having 7 leads coming from it as this suggests that some form of distribution system has been installed, and so if the loft is easily accessible you should have a check on this.

proff: Are you in effect saying that your normal viewing is from Crystal Palace but that this can change at times to Sandy? because if you are then go into your TV or boxes set up menu and disable "auto channel update", that is if this choice is offered as on some devices its not.
Maybe you could indicate the model number of whatever you are using.

Andrew Baron: If your Sky+ box does not show any adverse effects to this event in the same way as does your standard box then its likely because that either (1) its mains filtering arrangements are a little more advanced over that in the standard box, or alternatively (2) that because of it being a newer device its power supplies electrolytic storage capacitors are still maintaining their capacity, as in most standard older boxes they aren't!
If "for a test" you can get hold of one of these 13 amp 4 way (or more) mains socket strips with in built filters / suppressors such as used by desk station PC's etc then thats worth a try.
However I do have to emphasise that there is no guarantee that this will cure the problem because there is an element of hit and miss about how to remedy this type of difficulty, and economy 7 systems operate differently across the country and this brings other variables into the equation.
Standard Sky boxes are obtainable for relatively low prices from numerous sources, and so it might be best trying to pick one of these up, but once again no guarantees can be given as should one be purchased it "might" be just as bad as the one you already have.
Just out of curiosity, when your economy 7 comes on does this also switch on storage heaters or some other devices that operates on a second circuit? or does your system just switch meters?

Audrey: If you have the Humax box coupled into the TV using a scart lead then check to make sure the the connector plugs at both ends of the cable are fully seated into the scart sockets, as if not this can cause the problem mentioned.
However this would "not" be the cause of the "no signal" warning and which could indicate a problem with the box, as a while back a number of Humax boxes developed this problem although its my belief that the models affected were connected into the TV via an HDMI lead and not a scart, and so if the scart socket check proves to be negative maybe you could indicate the model of box in question, and whether or not a scart or HDMI connection is being used.
