Mick Hill: The channels referred to can be viewed irrespective of whether or not you actually subscribe to Sky, and so you not being a subscriber is not the reason for your problem.

Your problem is more likely to be due to your dish not being aligned correctly, the procedure involved being something which requires a high degree of accuracy, the question being, what type of dish are you using?

The best types are ones specifically designed for caravan use, i.e: mounted on a tripod, and with the dishes LNB being fitted with LED indicators to assist in locating the satellite, although even then, the inexperienced can find the task as being a very time consuming procedure.

Mick Hill : In addition to that said. If your dish is "not" of the type referred to, insomuch its LNB being fitted with LED indicators as an aid to locating the satellite, then its advisable to purchase one of those inexpensive (£10.00 or so) satellite finders, some types being fitted with pointer type signal meters, whereas others use a number of LED's, indications on both types usually accompanied by an audible tone, the pitch of increasing in sympathy with any rise in signal strength.

Steve. -0-: When you say "make it work with an aerial" make what work? because if you are meaning that you want to make the Sky box work with an aerial rather than a dish? then the answer is no!

George Dickinson: As no faults are seen listed against the Haltwhistle relay, nor are there any engineering works taking place at the station, it would therefore be prudent to try and ascertain if anyone else in your immediate locality are also experiencing similar problems with their reception.

If though they aren't, then leave your TV on the signal strength indicator screen and wiggle the aerial jumper lead around and see if this has any affect on the signal strength indication, as your problem "might" be down to fault in your aerial system.

If you have any other device coupled into your TV via an HDMI lead, then also try moving this lead around.

chris kitching: Quest (37) is transmitted on the same Multiplex (COM4) as ITV3, if you can receive the latter but not Quest you should try carrying out a "manual" tune on Carmels C54 (COM4) to refresh the content of the guide, as the programme has possibly dropped out due to a tuner glitch.

Alan York : If by "other channels" you are meaning those such as ITV / Ch4 or Ch5? then carry out a reset on whatever you are using followed by a normal retune, if though on the other hand you are referring to such as ITV3 / Pick TV etc?, then you are (or were) possibly receiving them from the Preseli main station transmitter @ 26 miles / 83 degrees / aerial horizontally mounted, albeit that the DUK reception predictor indicates that reception in the post code area supplied is not possible from anywhere other than from the St Davids relay, (a few hundred yards away on a bearing of 351 degrees) this possibly being down to the line-of-sight signal from Preseli suffering from an obstruction at just under 1 mile away from your particular location.

The only reason for mentioning the latter (Preseli), being that a Google earth check revealed a small number of aerials in your area pointing in the direction of Preseli.

P. Castle: Upper Heyford is located outside the coverage area of Oxfords LOX multiplex transmitter, Middleton Stoney being on the extreme verges of, and although LCN8 may well be listed on the programme guide, the actual level the signal being received at is most likely to be well under that necessary to resolve a picture.

If your TV offers a manual tuning? go into the facility and enter C51 (714.0Mhz) but do "NOT" scan it, as on most devices the strength / quality level of any signal being received will be shown on the indicator bars nomatter how low it might be, this procedure allowing the tuner to act like a signal meter free of "lower threshold" limits, the latter being why no picture is seen even although it appears in the guide.

P. Castle: By the way, just in case you were wondering, the signal from Oxfords LOX transmitter is beamed from the mast in a West/South Westerly direction towards Oxford, Middleton Stoney being on the edge of the circular coverage area that surrounds the mast, reception in said area not necessarily guaranteed as being 100% reliable at all times.
