Barrie Williams: Well the first obvious question would be to ask the model of TV / box you are using, especially the TV so that its tuner spec can be verified as being DVB-T2 capable.

F Canfield: I still cant help but feel that if you have verified that both these set top type aerials are working OK by having tried them on the upstairs TV, but both of them fail to give a picture when used on the set downstairs when located in approximately the same position as before when hitherto they did provide a workable signal, then there is likely to be some other factor involved which although maybe appearing as totally insignificant, isn't!
If the worst comes to the worst and you cant find a way around the problem, then should the breakfast bar be located on the rear of the house cant you install a aerial such as shown in the link? this mounted on a small wall bracket or even by using a gutter mount. (I refer to the DM18 as others are also shown)
By the way Mendip (@ 16mls / 128degrees) and Wenvoe ( @17mls / 291degrees) show exactly the same predictions as far as reception is concerned, that of being excellent, but not necessarily both being picked up at the same strength when using an indoor aerial, so you have to ensure that when you carry out an auto-tune your TV actually picks all the channels up from the same station.

ROGER: Plus as well as what Briantist has said, you have to beware that your signal isnt over the top power wise and which can cause problems with HD reception even although normal Freeview might be OK, as the Dallington Park relay is in the area behind the house at the end of the street where the turning point is.
Just purely for a test you should try using a set top aerial.

emily: Assuming you are referring to a Sky+ box which has two "F" connectors, and if so then what you say suggests that one of them is not connecting properly, so try swapping the "F" plugs over and see if the fault transfers to the other input, if it does then carefully unscrew the "F" plug from the cable on the one with no signal and check that a single strand of wire hasn't wrapped itself around the copper inner core of the cable.

emily: Just to add, dont leave the cable on the input that isnt working plugged into the Sky box for long, as should a strand of wire be the cause of your problem there is a danger of you damaging the box by it running into a short circuit for an extended period of time.

terry: Although what you have mentioned could possibly be responsible there is another factor which could be coming into the equation depending on your location, that of you receiving an over powerful signal, as the symptoms experienced in this type of situation are "exactly" the same as with a weak signal due to the tuner being on the verges of instability.
If you care to provide your location (pref: post code) then this will enable an assessment to be made using the reception predictors facilities which will determine if there is a possibly of this applying or not.

SUE: The problem you might be having is that you are predicted to be able to receive signals from three different stations, Winter Hill being the main one but with Moel-y-parc a close second and Storeton Wales last, so you are possibly receiving a mixture from the two main sources.
You should carry out a factory reset (or maybe called default setting) on the TV followed by going into the set up menu / tuning / manual tune and entering the following mux channels one at a time, storing what's received after each scan then repeating the operation.
Ch62 - 59 - 54(HD if applicable) - 58 - 61 - 55.
Do not auto-tune.

mr eric townsley: If its the Nottingham transmitter you receive your signal from and not Waltham, then you will require to use manual tuning of the channels required as the same thing may happen again, so scrub channels already stored either by carrying out a re-scan without the aerial being connected or more reliably a factory re-set (maybe called default setting or first time installation) then after having re-connected the aerial again go into the TV's tuning menu / manual tune and enter Mux Ch27(BBC) pressing search (or scan) then store channels received, repeat the procedure but this time enter Mux C24(ITV).
Once BBC and ITV is stored use the update channels facility (or whatever is called on your set) to recover the remaining multiplexes.

Mr P.Slater: And just to add, that although Patcham will undeniably be the best for reception Whitehawk Hill also comes into the equation as from March 21st, and although still being indicated as good its not exactly in the same way as far as reception is concerned when compared to Patcham, however with it being a full service station its worth giving that a try first.
