mary: Its not really possible for anyone to be able to give advice on your problem without knowledge of your location and with this preferably in the form of a post code, or at least one from a nearby shop etc, as this would then enable the signal strength expected at your location to be assessed as well as the name of the transmitter that covers your area.
Maybe you could also mention the model number of the box you are referring to, but regarding the booster, if its the type behind the TV try by-passing it and see what happens.

martin shalman: As far as I can see the analogue TV standards in Ghana are PAL B/G whereas in the UK its PAL I with the two systems not being compatible with each other hence the peculiar audio you are hearing, with this being caused by the sound being permanently off tune to that required with PAL B which has a different audio to video carrier spacing.
Another aspect that I noticed concerning Ghana's proposed new digital TV service is, that when this eventually rolls out the receivers used to view the service will require to be fitted with DVB-T2 tuners, this being the spec used in the UK for the Freeview HD service, although in Ghana this not necessarily being used for HD purposes in common with Northern Ireland's new digital service, the problem for you about all this being that as your model is only an HD ready device it will only have a DVB-T tuner fitted, and as such wont pick anything up.
Taking all this into account, I cant really see your TV being used as anything other than a monitor, with it being coupled into a locally purchased receiver.

Martin: Although on-site reception reports (which I welcome) are always useful in building up a picture of what like things are like in certain area's, a fact that must always be remembered is that when in an iffy area for reception such as applies all around Liphook and district, is that the signal strengths received at a given spot can be found to vary quite widely even over a few yards or so, let alone at the up to three miles or so away such as is indicated exists between yourself and Darren.
As I am unaware of your exact location I carried out a check using a test code on Greathams post office and which revealed the area as being slightly worse for reception than Liphook, with an element of this still applying after switchover, and its because of this fact that I feel you are in effect "getting away" with the aerial system you are using, as its almost certain that you wouldn't if in a slightly better signal area, this even allowing for the slightly misleading gain figures claimed for aerials such as the DAT45, and indeed a number of others due to the fact that the figures are mostly obtained when under a strictly controlled test situation, this never at any time being replicated in practice hence are very much lower.
Signal overloading problems is nothing new, as its something almost guaranteed to be experienced by a handful of people in practically every area in the UK where high powered switchover has taken place at the main transmitting station that serves them.
I will agree with your comment regarding the 8000T though, at least for the time being.

Darren Ellis: Regarding the set top, yes, I would be interested to know the result, but keep me posted with regards to events after the 14th when a re-tuning event takes place as well as ITV powering up and changing its transmission mode, although its April 25th before ArqB (Mux Ch50) powers up and with a break until the next event takes place on Oct 4th.

peter52: Have you tried swapping the feeds from the dish over on the two devices being used? this being the only way to verify if the feed being used for the Samsung is OK or not.
Just out of interest, what model of Samsung sat box are you referring to?

kev askey: As you are virtually the next door neighbour to Sutton Coldfields mast try taking the aerial out of the TV and carrying out a re-scan with only a short (about 12" or so) piece of wire inserted into the inner part of the aerial socket and see what transpires, or better still a set top aerial should you have access to one.
What model of Tevion do you have?

Colin T: Regarding the 8K issue on that model of TV which by the way it its original fashion dates back to 2004, and although its tuner might well have been updated and factory fitted with an 8K capable chip, something which the Toshiba customer services is aware of hence the statement made by them, but whether or not this technical update had actually been activated when being set up in the factory is another matter altogether, because as you have obviously noticed yourself there are just too many people reporting this type of problem with that model for the fault to be one caused by the viewers installation.
Still, one never knows what will happen when you carry out the full factory reset, as that might trigger things into action.

ChrisB: Although its unlikely that this would be applying, but did you double check to make sure that your equipment picked up the ITV mux Ch59 from Winter Hill and not Ch49 from Moel-Y-Parc, as the predictor indicates that this is also (in theory) possible albeit at a lower strength.

Rod Darling: What you have reported could suggest that you are not in a particularly good area for reception, this being why you can only receive BBC and nothing else, as the BBC multiplex is the only one presently operating on high power.
This situation should change as far as ITV1 and the HD service is concerned come March 21st when they also switch over to high power, but the remaining three commercial transmitters will not be increased until April 18th when a further re-tuning event takes place.
You should really provide your location (pref: post code) with any query involving reception, as this would enable the signal level expected in your area to be assessed, my reply being based on you being served by the Rowridge transmitter(s).
By the way, UHF TV channels only start at 21 and end at 68, so there isn't anything wrong.
