Caroline It difficult for anyone to make comment on any other possible reasons for the problem when you haven't actually mentioned your location, this in the form of a post code, or at least one from nearby (shop etc) to enable it to be fed into the reception predictor and the results assessed.

Stephen P: Yes! a valid point, as the TV might actually be faulty.

Arqiva statements on London Digital Switchover
Saturday 28 April 2012 11:17PM

Ardy: Well, its not really the case of your aerial being at fault as such but more one of it receiving an excessively high level of signal since switchover and that will give "exactly" the same symptoms as a weak signal due to the tuner being overloaded.

To test if this is applicable to your case should you have any form of booster fitted then it must by by-passed, but if a booster isnt used then try either a set top aerial or alternatively a short piece of wire (about 12") pushed into the inner part of the aerial socket, giving an update on the results.

Diagnostics - old version
Sunday 29 April 2012 1:04PM

BEVERLEY: Your problem can be caused by a number of reasons ranging from your aerial having been damaged by the wind to the actual transmitter you are receiving from being off the air "if" its a relay station of a more remote nature, so if you are in that type of situation then check with a neighbour to find out if anyone else other than yourself is affected.

Mary Middleton: With regards to your suggestion, the positive way of confirming if the coax connection between upstairs and the lounge is OK is simply by trying the Tesco purchase in the lounge, or alternatively and the best test! trying the lounge TV up stairs, as should it be found the TV doesn't work good upstairs either, then this can mean that either the Tesco boxes tuner is more sensitive than the TV's and that's why it picking up the stations, or that the problem is possibly with the actual TV's tuner.

C22 (482.0MHz) after switchover
Sunday 29 April 2012 1:34PM

barry: If thats what its doing then that can suggest a fault within the box itself, what brand / model is it?

That said, did you carry out a "factory reset", or "default setting" on the box before the auto-tune? that is if your box allows this action as some dont, but if it does then this is always the best action to take as it eliminates any corrupted data that might be stored in the memory.

Eric Hayman: Without checking I am unable at this present time to say for certain if Vestel are still providing "over air" downloads for that chassis, or whether because of it being an older chassis it can only be done by downloading the software into a PC then transferring the data into the Digihome via an RS232 cable between the PC and the box, which I unfortunately have to say is very likely to be the only way that its possible to upgrade that model now, of course this also affects about another 15 or so badge name brands (Hitachi / Sharp, etc) that also use that chassis.

However this is a link to the software download information site, and which only last week had a Vestel chassis download listed, but though you didn't miss anything as it was for a T836 which is a much later model.

stewart forbes: Its not really possible for anyone to answer a reception query without knowledge of where a person is located, (pref: post code or one from nearby) as the signal level expected from whatever transmitter cannot be assessed without this info.

Mary Middleton: This is said in addition to advice given by Dave Lindsay regarding the tuning info.

Ardy: As what I had suggested was only for a test albeit a valid one, if you cant access or borrow a set top aerial then try the wire test, as if you are located in an exceptionally high signal level area then you will most likely find that a picture can be obtained by using a single wire, this then indicating that an attenuator is required to be placed in line with your LG's aerial socket.

By the way, tuners used in LG equipment not being very tolerant to overload situations.
