Try the set top aerial on the TV in question "after" having carried out an auto-tune on it without the aerial being connected, this just to ensure that no corrupted data is stored in the memory, then after connecting the set top aerial into the TV give the set another auto-scan.
If this gives a picture of sorts then an attenuator will require to be fitted on the aerial lead from the loft, this connecting into the TV's aerial socket.
Variable attenuators only cost a few pounds (under £5.00) and these are inclined to be better as you can adjust them to suit the occasion.

Ciaran: The answer is really quite simple, insomuch that no matter what type of satellite device is being used each of their "F" connector input sockets requires its own individual feed, and satellite feeds cannot be split or shared in anyway because the receiver sends instructions to the LNB (via two voltage levels) for polarity switching purposes.
As an example, someone might have a twin tuner Freesat PVR as well as two standard Sky boxes being used in bedrooms, and so each bedroom will require its own feed and with the Freesat PVR (or Sky+) requiring two, this to enable one channel to be viewed whilst recording the other, or alternatively two different channels being recorded at the same time.
As far as coax is concerned, the thicker cable is possibly only of better quality like WF100 or similar.

Ciaran: Also meant to say, that if a satellite feed cable requires extending then it should only be done by using an "F" connector on the end of each cable and the two coupled together using a female back to back coupler.
As far as one box not working is concerned, try swapping them over just to eliminate the possibility of one having developed a fault, if though the problem is still there then the chances are that a strand of the braiding wire has accidentally caught around the inner core of the coax whilst the "F" connector was being screwed on.
Finally, all LNB ports are independent of each other, and so they can be swapped over for testing purposes if its suspected that one port is down.

Dionne: This question was fully answered in reply to your other similar posting made earlier yesterday (@ 11.16pm) using the undermentioned heading.
"My Sky box has a "no signal message" - what do I do?"

JOHN ANSELL: I would judge things more on the strength / quality readings you see indicated on the FREESAT box, as although unaware of the exact type of signal meter you are referring to, but if its not a professional type (or semi-pro) then it wont indicate quality, and that is far more important then strength, as dependant on adjustments its possible to have a really good strength being indicated but accompanied by low quality.
If you can view the TV from where the dish is located then leave the box on the signal check menu, then whilst viewing the indicator bars move the dish very slightly to the left or right of its present position to obtain maximum quality, as I cant help but feel that your problem is being caused by a quality problem, which of course is still linked to the strength especially if the latter is low.
Whilst you are at it you could test the skew positioning on both vertical and horizontal polarity signals, don't worry though if one polarity seems to have a lower indication than the other as this is quite normal.
This all said taking it that you do mean FREESAT?

Nick: The most likely reason for the quality flash you refer to is that some moving object has reflected the signal, and with this most likely being a high (or in certain cases not so!) flying aircraft.
As a matter of fact this effect can be seen on most TV's / boxes that offer a quality as well as strength indication, because if a mux channel number of a known distant station is entered into the search box on a sets manual tune facility (only entering and "not" scanning) and with the strength / quality bars being viewed over a few minutes, the effect that you observed can frequently be seen to occur and for the reason explained.
You may (or may not) already know this, but entering a mux channel number into a manual tune facility box but NOT scanning causes the tuner to act like a form of signal meter and is likewise free of threshold level restrictions whereby it will show signal levels far too low to produce a picture, this being why should a subsequent scan be carried out some people might be a bit mystified as to why nothing was picked up even although they had observed signal levels being shown, the reason for being that as soon as "search" or "scan" is activated the threshold level restrictions part of the circuitry jump in.
As far as Ch60 is concerned, I have a element of sympathy with you concerning this type of problem, albeit that you are outside of the coverage area, as ever since Sandy Heath switched over I, and many others have had the same type of problem on ArqA Ch52 (and only that channel) whereby its constantly under the reception threshold level on all of my equipment, and with me having a strong suspicion that there might possibly be a slight angular misalignment on the the panel aerial thats used to serve the NW sector of the mast such as I am located in, as mobile tests I have carried out have proven that the problem seems to affect a span area of about 65 degrees or so in roughly the W / NW area from the mast.

leslie rain er: If you have Freeview in the bedrooms then there is no reason why it shouldn't be possible to have it in the main room, that is by using a powered splitter and with one of its outputs feeding the lounge.
On the subject of Ch4 HD and which you referred to in a posting under a different heading, if you are receiving BBC & ITV HD then you should also likewise be receiving Ch4 HD "if" you had carried out a "first time installation" on your TV or box, or if that is not an option then a "factory reset", or "default setting" before carrying out an auto-tune.
By the way, the retune on the 17th was also the change the EPG number positions used by a few programmes on Com 5 & 6 such as Yesterday (12 to 19) and Dave (19 to 12), and even although you may not actually view these programmes you should really carry out a scan using the aforementioned procedure to keep your programme guide up to date.
Of course, that is unless you have your equipment set to accept channel updates then that "might" have changed your EPG listings dependant on whatever you are receiving on.

Steve: Very unlikely! as both stations mentioned give predictions for your location with a mixture of "poor / variable" or not at all, and with the only channels that doesn't being Dover and Crystal Palaces HD service, albeit that you didnt actually mention the latter.

Anne Mihailovic: The reception of ITV3 is not really indicated as being good from any of the stations that cover your area, however Sudbury is indicated as having the edge over Dover.
You should remove your aerial and carry out an auto-tune to blank out anything stored in the tuners memory, then once complete reconnect the aerial and go into the TV or boxes tuning menu / manual tune and enter Ch58 (Sudbury's ITV3) then press search (or scan) and store anything found.
By the way, as soon as you enter Ch58 you should see the strength / quality of the signal being received on that channel being indicated so make a note of it for future reference, as even although strength / quality might be indicated its not necessarily at a level that will resolve a picture, although if over 50% then it should.
Should this action restore ITV3 then go into the "search for other channels" option, and dependant on how it works in your set (as they are all different!) using that facilty might restore the remaining channels, if not though then the channels will have to be entered manually one at a time in the same way as you have already done for ITV3.
Sudbury's channels / 44(BBC) - 41(ITV1) - 47(HD) - 58(ITV3 etc) - 60(ArqA) - 56(ArqB)
