Mrs Burton: Rowridge transmitters radiate on both horizontal and vertical polarities, its maximum 200Kw across the board power being "only" on vertical, with many viewers having had their aerials vertically mounted to take advantage of this fact.
However, the COM7 transmitter referred to is only broadcast on its horizontally polarised transmission and at a much lower power of 24.4Kw, which is even less than the other horizontal COM transmissions on 50Kw, and so should your aerial have been vertically mounted for the aforementioned reasons then this might be the problem.
Have a look up at your aerial, if the elements are facing up and down then its vertically mounted.

Sarah Sayer: In situations such as yours, its always the best policy to make a local enquiry to ascertain if others are also suffering from similar problems as yourself, because if they are, then this eliminates the possibility of the problem being associated with a defect in your own installation, this obviously saving on time wasted needlessly checking connections etc.
That said, its noticed that your area is one containing a large number of trees with some of being of the dense variety, and indeed the aerials on some properties are seen to be facing directly into same, if by any chance this applies to your particular property then this might be the cause of your reception problem, trees having a blocking effect on RF signals, and which can vary quite considerably dependant on the moisture content of the leaves.

Nigel Pardoe: Although having reseated the connectors at both ends of the cable, is said cable continuous? or does it go through anything such as a distribution amplifier?, because should this apply then any device that the signal is being fed through has to be of the "DC pass" variety so as "not" to block the 5 / 9 volts from the modulator that operates the magic eye.
Just out of curiosity, is there any particular reason for you changing the default channel output from the RF modulator?

Dan: Numerous viewers using Goodman's boxes, as well as other brands which use the same chassis, have been suffering from this problem since the recent channel update, the reason for the problem being suspected by some as yet, undetermined change having been made to the structure of the BBC signal, and which has shown up a deficiency in the software used by Goodman's boxes, as to my knowledge only they are being affected.
Unfortunately, nothing can really be done about the situation, that is unless Goodman's provides an over air download to update the software, or alternatively, that the BBC reverses any changes suspected as being responsible for the problem.

Mrs Martryn: If you are purely referring to the channel number changes? and "not" because you have possibly been reading comments about problems with Goodmans boxes, then the only action required is to retune your mothers TV or box.
If this does not have the desired effect, i.e: channels in the correct order, then first of all select "manufacturers reset" / "default setting" or "first time installation" prior to retuning, the three procedures mentioned all resulting in the same thing, that being to clear out all channels stored in the TV or boxes tuner prior to it being retuned.
It would be of assistance to know the brand / model of the TV or box your mother uses.

ian: Well, much as many are understandably loathe about doing this, but before checking anything its always advisable to try and make a local enquiry (neighbour etc) to find out if others are also being affected.
That said, as Pontop Pike is indicated as being the transmitter that covers your area then its unlikely that any power surge would have affected the station, and if its ascertained that the problem is purely confined to your installation then if possible? try bypassing the booster by connecting the aerial directly into your TV, retuning not necessary unless you have already tried this since the problem occurred, because if you have and the booster has blown, then nothing will be stored in the tuners memory.

ian : Also meant to say, that before carrying out the booster bypass test, try switching the power supply to the booster off for a few minutes before powering it up again, as "some" types of boosters can cut out if any overload is detected, with switching off then on again being the only way of resetting them.

ian : By the way, on having carried out a quick Google earth check on given location, should by "amplified aerial system" you are really referring to a receiving the signal via an outlet point from a local communal aerial distribution system? then its essential to find out if any others are being affected as the problem could be due to the distribution amplifier having failed.

Ann Kelly: Unfortunately not, as Freeview reception in your area is provided by the Darvel transmitter, whereas the channel referred to is only transmitted by Blackhill, the signal beamed in a fan shape to the West and with its Southern leg tapering off around the East Kilbride area.

Paul Radford: In addition to that said, I would like if you could clarify on a point, insomuch, that if the guide button on the remote control is pressed this actually shows channel numbers being listed from 101 - 111 and also 123 &124?, but nothing happens when you press on any of them? or is it the case that the numbers mentioned are not listed?
