Mark Wood : Yes, thanks for confirmation on this, as I had e-mailed them on Monday morning informing them of this widespread problem, although was unaware that they had subsequently published an update on the situation to the effect that the situation had been resolved.

von: If you have been informed that the socket referred to in the bedroom enables you to view the same programme as that on the Sky box in the living room, (if that's what you mean?) then the other end of this socket (in the living room marked return) would be connected into a Sky boxes RF2 output socket, the TV in the bedroom being set on "analogue" and auto-tuned to receive the signal being sent out by the Sky box, that is "if" your Sky box has an RF2 socket? as the latest types (silver sided with ventilation holes) don't!, a device called in I.O. port modulator having to be used.

Of course, this arrangement will only enable Sky to be viewed in the bedroom, and so in order to receive Freeview in both the living room and bedroom you will have to purchase a two way powered splitter, obtainable from such as Argos, you then use a jumper lead to connect the "aerial socket" in the living room into the splitters input, No1 outlet from the splitter being connected into the living room TV, the splitters No2 outlet being connected into the Sky boxes RF1.

This system enables the Freeview signal to pass through the Sky box picking up the boxes RF2 analogue signal in the process, with both Sky and Freeview then being fed into the TV in the bedroom, the bedroom TV being set on DTV (called terrestrial on some sets) and auto-tuned to pick up the Freeview station that covers your area, the analogue signal of the programme being viewed on the Sky box in the living room, having already been tuned in on the bedroom TV as explained in paragraph one.

As you have mentioned having a Smart TV, its assumed that you are already broadband connected with a router.?

von: By the way, should for the time being you prefer to just be able to view Freeview TV in the bedroom, then all you require to do is purchase the splitter referred to, connecting its input into the aerial socket on the wall plate, and with its No1 output going into the living room TV, its No2 output being connected into the socket marked return, this (hopefully) feeding the Freeview signal through to the socket in the bedroom, TV located in the bedroom being auto-tuned to load up the channels from the transmitter that covers your area. (unknown!)

The Argos item referred to is 108/0287, although it would assist to have knowledge of your location, post code or one from nearby, e.g: a shop / post office etc, as dependant on where you are located relative to that of the transmitter that covers your area, you "may" get away with using a simple "Y" piece splitter rather than a powered one.

MikeP: Thanks for the info, those BT starter versions of their standard Humax based YouView box certainly being quite a departure from the norm, although I suppose this type of YouView box could be looked at as being the easiest way of turning a standard Freeview TV into a form of Smart TV, something that cannot normally be done.

I also feel your version of YouView box as being the type Patricia was referring to, (Dec 2nd @ 5.15PM) the lack of it having an aerial out socket being her reason for asking the question in the first place, albeit it didn't cross my mind at the time, most YouView devices whether BT or TalkTalk being enhanced PVR's, although in the case of TalkTalk the box being of a Huawei brand device.

Motors TV
Friday 5 December 2014 5:51PM

Hugo: Motors TV (71) is broadcast on the COM7 multiplex, and even although you may well be able to receive HD transmissions, whether or not this will include COM7 is totally dependent on where you happen to reside in Ayrshire, as although COM7 is transmitted from Darvel on Mux C31, should this be the station that covers your area?, its not from the South Ayrshire Girvan transmitter.

Knowledge of your location (post code or one from nearby e.g: Post Office etc) would be of assistance, as this would enable a check to be made on the station that covers your area.

Hugo ; Meant also to add. Other programmes also broadcast on COM7 are BBC4HD (106) - BBC News HD (107) - Community Channel HD (109) - C Beebies HD (124) plus another six.

Another point to note being, that even although the IPTV version of motors is seen on your EPG listing (240), this message is being transmitted on COM5.

MikeB: Although your BBC HD channels query might be in connection to MikeP's satellite scan on his LG, but purely for information purposes one of the boxes I use is a Sky+HD box on a non-subscription basis, but with its hard drive having been disconnected as it serves no purpose when the box is being used in this way. My other reason for having done this being for purposes of acoustic noise level reduction as well as an element of electrical economy.

When the box is being used in this fashion, the only HD channels I have found possible to view are all with a BBC tag attached to them, e.g: BBC1-2-3-4 HD including CBeebies HD / CBBC HD / BBC News HD, other channels being: ITV1HD inc+1 / Ch4 HD / RT HD / NHK World HD, no others being possible that I am aware of.

MikeB: I have never at any time found PSB related HD channels to have been blocked, although considering that HD channels received on my Sky+HD box are exactly the same as obtainable on my Humax HD Freesat PVR, I may decide to reconnect the hard drive on the Sky+HD box and just reinstall my standard Sky box, as many of the channels viewed by my family on the Sky+HD box are only broadcast in SD anyway.

Winter Hill (Bolton, England) transmitter
Tuesday 9 December 2014 8:19PM

H J Hill: If the engineers have not as yet been able to isolate the cause of the problem, one hopes that its "not" because the reason for the drop out is suspected of being caused by a feeder / connection problem at the top of the mast, as this would require a major disruption to all services in order to rectify the defect.

Winter Hill (Bolton, England) transmitter

MikeP: Yes!, thats exactly my own line of thought on this matter, because faults of that nature are not necessarily picked up by indications on TX meters, as even although an iffy connection on an aerial element would normally upset the loading on a transmitter, the auto matching devices between the TX and the aerial would smooth this out to a certain extent whereby its not noticed.
