Rich Booth: Sutton Coldfields SDN transmitter operates on Mux Ch42, Ch41 is from The Wrekin and which is indicated as providing an inferior level of reception. If you carry out a retune and this happens again then you might have to carry out a Manual tune on each of the muxes one at a time to overcome this problem, the mux channels used by Sutton Coldfield being / 43)BBC) - 46(ITV) - 40(HD) - 42(ITV3) - 45(Pick TV etc) - 39(Yesterday etc).

Rich Booth: I notice that for some reason the latter mux was cut off, it being 39 (Film 4 / Yesterday etc).

ANDY: It would be of somewhat assistance to know what type (brand / model) of monitor you are referring to as well as the name of any connections you might see on the rear of the unit.

Serretta: You must reside in a strong signal area or what you are doing would not work, and indeed most likely wouldn't if you connected the coax up properly using an "F" plug on the end of the coax, and with this being screwed into an adaptor plugged into the TV's aerial socket, the adaptor called "female F to coax male".

The reason I say that this would not work (unless very close to transmitter) is because you are only able to receive a workable signal because the braiding is not earthed, but once it is then that will kill the signal.

In other words, you are not doing any more than connecting a piece of wire into the aerial socket, and this can be any wire of a few feet long like a short length of lighting flex.

Trev Cape: You do not have to do anything at present as a dish is 100% technically compatible with Sky and Freesat, and when you cancel your Sky contract your box just reverts to you being able to view everything as before except Sky dedicated package channels, you can check what you will be able to view by simply removing your card and running through the EPG listings.

The Humax box you are thinking about is an excellent device, albeit that its just the large hard drive version of the lower capacity models, but as far as your LNB is concerned if you have carried out an inspection and it doesn't have a spare port then quad LNB conversion kits are available for around the £10.00 mark from various e-bay outlets, these in many cases being exactly the same type as used by Sky engineers.

These kits are simplicity to fit by virtually being push fit into the end of the "rectangular" arm, if its a round type then some kits contain an adaptor, so its best to check what type of arm your dish has.

After fitting the LNB swap the existing "F" plug onto the new block (any port) and check that the reception is still OK on the TV, if it is then run a second coax cable from the LNB to the Sky box.

Apart from the satellite grade coax you will require two "F" connector plugs, one for each end of the cable.

By the way exercise caution when fitting the kit to avoid any possibility of disturbing the position of the dish arm, as in most cases if it isn't moved then reception will still be OK.

Finally all ports are independent of each other and so any can be used, two for the Humax and another for a Sky box in a different room, this leaving one as a spare.

Richard Dennis : These symptoms suggest that "if" your local Freeview station has recently changed its operating channel numbers then one of is now on the same channel as is being used by your Sky boxes analogue modulator link, something which can cause problems such as described dependant on the signal level being received from the Freeview transmitter.

You should try changing the RF modulators channel to say 66 - 69 and check if the Freeview problem has cleared, if so then retune your TV whilst on analogue to pick up the modulators new output channel.

If this does not work then it will be necessary to provide info on your location, this in the form of a post code or one from nearby e.g: a shop, as only then can details of the transmitter involved be checked out.

Just an afterthought, "before" carrying out the procedure mentioned try by-passing the Sky box by linking your aerial feed directly into the coax lead that goes to the splitter, as should that action clear the Freeview problem then this confirms that it is the Sky boxes modulator that is causing the problem.

Geoff: Either reset your TV by carrying out a factory reset (sometimes called default setting or position ) or remove the aerial and then carry out an auto-tune as this will blank out the tuners memory store, then once complete reconnect the aerial and go into your TV or boxes tuning menu / manual tune and enter the mux channels one at a time as shown in the link, storing same once scan is complete.

Ch62(BBC) - Ch59(ITV) - Ch54(HD if used) - Ch58(10-ITV3 etc) - Ch61(ArqA / 11-Pick TV / 82-Sky news) - Ch55(ArqB / 15-Film4 / 19-Yesterday).

Brian: Is there a reason why you are not using the usual method of connecting a DVD player / recorder into the Sky boxes 2nd scart socket? as by doing that you can record Sky's "free to view" programmes and possibly a few others, then when you wish to play a DVD the TV will automatically switch over to the player as soon as the player is taken out of standby.

Other than doing things this way you would require to purchase a two way switchable scart splitter but used as a combiner.

Roidy: Rebooting does not under normal circumstances delete anything recorded on the hard drive, and as far as your problem is concerned, your symptoms suggest that the boxes internal power unit has failed, not exactly an uncommon occurrence.

That said, you should double check that the boxes mains supply lead is OK by trying another of the same, as these two pin types are used in lots of devices such as laptop power units etc.

Sirena: You should try resetting your box by carrying a "factory reset" or "default setting" as this will delete the tuners memory store, then once complete carry out a normal auto-tune then check if the problem has vanished.

If though the problem is still there then please indicate the model number of the device in question.
