John Johnston: As your query involves checking transmitter coverage areas as well mux channel numbers used by the transmitter, then in the interests of accuracy a post code or one from nearby e.g: a shop/post office etc is really required.

It would also be of assistance if you could supply the model number of your TV.

Robin Walker: You should go into the Humax's installation menu, entering the default password of 0000, then in the tuning menu select "manual tune" and enter Ch39 into the box, but "before" pressing search make a note of the strength / quality being indicated then press it, mux Ch39 being COM6 that carries (15)Film 4 / (24)ITV4 / (19)Yesterday.

J palliser: The TV does not really come into the equation, because as you have mentioned your reception is via the Humax Freeview box and my advice was with reference to this device.

The reason for me requesting that you carry out the Ch60 / Ch61 signal "strength only" test is because of the possibility that a 4G device was being installed anywhere near to wherever you might be located and the engineer has "unofficially" tested the device out, as 4G devices once operational are capable of causing the type of problem you are experiencing but only on channels close to the top end of the band, your ITV station being just about on it.

By the way what model of Humax do you have?

Anonimouse : Transmitter related problems do not exist where satellite reception is concerned as the programmes received are being radiated by a number of different "transponders" working individually from each other.

As far as weather is concerned, this can only affect reception of a satellite signal during such as an extremely heavy thundery type downpour and which "will" very occasionally block the microwave signal, snow having gathered on the bowl of the dish / surface of the LNB being another reason.

J palliser: On catching up on what had been said, the Humax test on Ch60/Ch61 was only to give me an idea if any non-TV RF signals were present above Ch59, as some older Humax boxes can act like an RF sniffer if used in the way mentioned likewise might reveal the presence of a 4G signal being "unofficially" tested, as I noticed that the nearest Mobile phone mast to your location is on the B6241 between the roundabout and Glencourse Drive, albeit the info I have might have been updated.

As far as the trees are concerned, although a terrain check does indicate a clear line of sight from Winter Hill this excludes anything other than bare land, and the fact that your signal reaches you from across a mini forest on either side of the B6242 is bound to cause signal problems, higher frequencies always being affected to a much greater degree, as an erratic signal (strength / quality) indication is always symptomatic of problems being caused by vegetational reasons such as blocking / signal scattering etc.

By the way, when you had originally mentioned that others seem to be affected, were you meaning local to yourself (neighbours) or from what you had gathered from similar postings? because it would be prudent to check with others around you just in case you are trying to effect a cure on something that is outwith your control.

Catherine: On having re-assessed the situation it would appear that all of your problems are centred around mux Ch48 being received at either around, or in many cases under the level required for your TV to resolve a picture because ITV2+1 /ITV3 / 5* are all on mux Ch48.

On the subject of your neighbours being able to receive these channels OK is concerned, this could simply be down to their TV or box having a more sensitive tuner than that of your Matsui and this type of thing can easily be compensated for by adding a booster in line with your TV, a suitable device being seen in the Argos catalogue page 603 item number 534 / 4235 @ £11.99, as this is almost guaranteed to lift the signal level well above the point at which the signal drops out on your set

Apart from going ahead and purchasing the device referred to, the only way to find out whether the aerial feed into your apartment is OK or not is (if at all possible) to try retuning your TV whilst its connected into your neighbours aerial point, then once you have stored the channels try the set back on your own aerial again, because other than that your only option is to purchase the booster.

delver: Are you referring to since "after" having carried out the retune on June 5th when Beacon Hill's BBC moved to mux Ch60?

Liam: Just to add to that said by MikeP, remember that although this device can receive Freesat channels its not a dedicated Freesat receiver with a Freesat EPG, this meaning that the channels received will not be listed in the correct order and you will have to use the boxes edit facility to move them around so that they appear as would do in a Freesat EPG, a rather time consuming job!

Daniella Dean: Its not really possible for anyone to be able to offer assistance when a persons location is not known, this preferably being given in the form of a post code or one from nearby, e.g: a shop/post office.

John Taylor: Yes, such as the item shown on the link, although these as you will no doubt see mentioned in the link, have to be carefully set up to work properly.
