Jan: Yes! and in exactly the same way as you do with Sky, because as far as reception is concerned technically there is no difference between them.

Charles Stuart: Although Jamie is quite correct insomuch that you could download the latest software updates for your TV into a USB stick for purposes of direct transfer into your TV, but though that model you have does have a switchable automatic update facility for OA (over-air) download's, therefore you should ensure that this facility is actually active by following the undermentioned procedure.
Press "menu" then on the main menu select "set up" and then "system update" and make sure that "auto update in standby" is set to on.
You could if you wish just select "system update now" an see if anything changes, but its better to leave the TV on the auto update mode because should any updates be immanent a message will flash on the screen to this effect.
DTG weekly OA downloads can be checked from the info sent out on the website below, although the latest download info will not appear until Jan 13th.

Mr Ansell: A snowy pictures suggests that you have the digital tuner coupled into the analogue TV's aerial socket using an RF modulator facility as the TV does not have a scart socket? "if" this applies you should check that the coax jumper cable is not defective and especially where the coax joins into the end plugs, plus also check that your TV's AFC (auto frequency control) is not disabled, because a snowy picture is a symptom of the RF signal between the two devices being on the weak side.
Put in another way, if the jumper cable is OK then the RF modulator is defective.

hugh ferguson: Both 553 and the +1 version 554 are encrypted as they are part of a Sky subscription package, but with both of being chargeable extras to it for anyone who wishes to view them.

Charles Stuart: Regarding the intermittent fault referred to, according to info Panasonic had released a software update purely for the purpose of rectifying this commonly experienced problem, an update which it would appear that you possibly missed by switching the TV completely off when not in use, OK during night time hours but not during the day!
Anyway, you should check the software version used on your TV by going into the TV's "set up" menu and then scrolling down E set up (No2 menu) then select system information, the first 4 digits of the older problematic software version being 5580 and with the updated version being 5610.
The problem you now have is that this task could only be done by an engineer as according to the manual your TV does not have a USB socket therefore it would have to be done internally, that is should the latest software still be obtainable.

sharon mcgaffin : When you say "no signal" are you referring to what's seen after having connected the coax feed from the dish into the box and powered it up followed by having subsequently set the picture ratio required into the settings box that appeared "before" that of the signal check screen box? if you did and this resulted in the no signal message referred to then "if" your Sky HD system was Sky + disconnect the Manhattan from the mains supply and repeat the procedure using the spare dish feed used by the Sky+ box.

Charles Stuart : Re: Panasonic update query, its difficult to say as to whether they would or not and especially when its not just a case of popping something in the post for you but with them having to arrange for an engineers home visit.
All I can really suggest is you give them a ring and explain the situation and asking if they can help in any way, as there is always the chance (albeit remote!) that they might oblige as a good will measure.
By the way, should you decide to try ringing them its always best to ask the customer service person to transfer you over to the engineering department as you have a technical query involving software updating.

Ted: Now that you have supplied an amended model number for your TV then that alters things insomuch that it does now indicate that your model is fitted with a DVB-T2 tuner. By the way this should be mentioned in your user manual under the "tuner / broadcasting" section.
As far as non HD reception is concerned, Samsung TV's are notorious for being susceptible to tuner overloading problems if receiving a slightly over the top signal level, with in severe cases this usually resulting in no signal warning being seen, something which "might" be affecting your HD reception by being located at under 7 miles away from the powerful Crystal Palace transmitter.
To test if this applies or not you in your particular situation you should try a "manual scan" reception test on the HD channels C30 (plus COM7 C33 from 12th) using either a set top aerial or alternatively a short piece of wire (about 5 feet or so) connected into the aerial socket of your TV.

stuart: Freeview reception is not really predicted as being possible in your area of New Lanark, although exceptions to this will always exist such as obviously in your particular case.
As only the ITV4 mux (ArqB) is missing and presumably after your TV had carried out an automatic channel update? then go into your TV's tuning menu / manual tune and enter C47 into the box followed by scanning same, if on completion the ITV4 mux has not returned repeat the manual scan procedure by entering C47 into the box but do "NOT" press search or scan, because on most Freeview devices if a signal is being received the level its being received at will normally appear.
Further info dependant on outcome, but though if programmes such as (19) Yesterday or (18) 4Music "can" be received then the problem is being caused by a different reason, this only being rectified by carrying out either a "factory reset" or "first time installation".

steve: If you have two satellite feed cables coming into the flat then provided that both are operational you then have the option of either purchasing a standard Freesat receiver or alternatively a Freesat twin tuner (PVR) recorder, the latter enabling you to view one channel whilst you record another or alternatively recording two channels at the same time.
