carl: Basically on the face of it you havent done anything wrong, but the fact of you not getting any signal obviously means that a fault exists somewhere, and considering the source of the latest Sky box I suggest that you test it out by sitting it on top of the Sky+ box (space allowing) and swapping the connections from the Sky+ box over to it, using any one of the two "F" connectors from the Sky+ box as they are exactly the same technically.

If it doesnt work then you need go no further as obviously the box is faulty, but if it does take it back to the original position and unscrew the dish feeds "F" connector to make sure that a single strand of the braiding hasn't accidentally wrapped itself around the middle conductor, then screw it back on again and carry out another test.

If unfortunately it still doesnt work then you will have to check the "F" connector at the LNB end, and whilst you are at it, to save the possibility of another inspection put the "F" plug back into the other spare port, giving an update on results.

mike Roberts: I personally very much doubted that it would be your equipment at fault anyway, but unfortunately there isnt any other way to determine the cause of your complaint as even if your neighbours did view the same programme as yourself they may not even notice the problem, as some people are remarkably unobservant, plus the fact that time factor you mentioned between each of the occasions the problem occurred arent exactly close together.

Its one of these situations where you dont really have any option but to bide your time and see if it vanishes as the problem is caused by something outwith your control, and which I am reasonably sure will vanish as quick as it started.

Joe Alessi: Just out of curiosity I wondered what model of sat box you are using to receive the Italian channels? as depending on what there may be an easy and less costly way out of the problem, as other than that I cant see any way of getting over the problem without either purchasing a scart to HDMI up-scaling converter (approx £50.00) or possibly a Freesat HD receiver as these have an HDMI output socket.

Obviously although a Freesat device it would be used on its non Freesat mode. (other technical aspects permitting)

Maybe you could also mention the model of TV that you have mounted on the wall.

Anthony Maskrey; Are you getting this on all channels or only some? and if the latter then what channel is it affecting.

Joe Alessi: I answered this query on the other posting you made under another heading, this being a copy of the reply.

Bev: No one can possibly offer advice when you havent mentioned your location (pref: post code) nor anything about the model of device (TV or box) that you are receiving on, plus it would also be of assistance to know where your aerial is sited and whether or not you have a booster on it.

Paul Johnston: This could have happened if your TV was re-tuned whilst there was possibly a glitch at the transmitter on its HD mux, as the TV has possibly picked up signals from other than Winter Hill that doesn't transmit HD.

First of all carry out a factory reset or maybe called "default setting" on your TV, then follow this with an auto-tune, if HD returns good and well, but if not carry out another reset as before but do "not" follow it by an auto-tune, go into the tuning menu / manual tune and enter Ch54 (Winter Hills HD) then press search, if all is in order the HD channels should return, then recover the remaining muxes using the "update channel list" facility.

Joe Alessi: Thanks for the update, my reason for requesting the model of Sat receiver you are using is because I wanted to check if it had an RF modulator output, as if it had you could have combined that output with the Freeview one through the single cable, however I see that it hasn't got that facility and so the scart to HDMI upscaler is the only answer, albeit a pricey one!

This is the link for the device as sold by Maplin,(mentioned just in case the link doesnt work) of course other sources exist as well like from Amazon etc, etc.

Toni: Thanks for the update! with one part of the content making me rather curious, that of you having said that the surround sound works OK from the TV, so could you confirm (or not) that you are referring to when viewing a Sky programme on the TV and not a Freeview one? as if by any chance it is the latter then for test purposes I would like you to remove the scart link between the Sky box and the Sony to see if the audio fails, as it should! if though it doesn't then that would suggest that the Sony's HDMI socket "is" responding to the TV's ARC facility even although its not listed as such.

On looking at the connections you have made between the various devices it appears as though the TV's single scart socket is not connected to anything, if this is the case then you should use that scart socket on the TV to connect the Toshiba's recorder's AV1 into, and with the recorders AV2 scart socket into the DVD/VCR scart socket on the Sky box, as in operation you will then be able to record from the Sky box "if" AV2 input is selected on the recorders input selector, and when anything is played back from the recorder it should switch the TV over to the recorder's output as the TV's scart should have auto-switching on that socket.

Likewise with this connection you should be able to record from the TV, as the recorders AV1 scart is capable of two way operation as is the TV's scart socket, so to record anything from the TV you first of all select AV1 on the recorders input selector, with playback exactly the same as previously described when referring to the recorders AV2 input.

Just to get back to the HDMI issue, if the test referred to in the first paragraph results in the audio failing then just swap the HDMI sockets over on the TV, as there is no point on having the Sony connected to the HDMI with the auto switch sensor if ARC is not working, as if No1 HDMI is connected to the Sky box then it should switch the TV over to Sky when the box is taken out of standby.

Would appreciate an update on results.
