Gordon Stocks: Just as an afterthought, in case your TV is of the type that doesnt respond favourably to having two auto-switch inputs originating from the same source i.e: Freesat box, couple the scart lead from the Freesat boxes AV1 into the TV's AV2 socket, selecting that input via the TV's input selector when you want to view anything from the VCR.

When the VCR is switched off after viewing from it the TV should switch back to the Freesat box but it will likely be via the scart socket, so change the TV back to its HDMI input via the TV's input selector menu, you might of course not notice that much of a difference if you dont, but HD will not work unless its via HDMI.

Malcolm K: No! you cannot alter anything on a Sky EPG list as its standard for everyone whether or not they subscribe.

Russell Plumb: And of course should what Dave Lindsay has said (Re: aspect of Sudbury) apply and the modulator is found to be well away from Ch63 (default usually Ch38) then the only way out of your problem is to use a two way powered splitter to enable you to feed the same level of signal to both the box and the TV.

Or of course just hold off until the end of June when the problem should then vanish.

Region maps now show in enhanced format

Barry: It would have been of assistance to know what you had in mind, but in general terms provided that a good quality cable is used (CT or WF100) then you shouldn't have any great problems with cable lengths of 50m or so, and in most cases even possibly much longer.

Although I would suggest that if you do have distances like that (or more) in mind you opt for the slightly larger Sky zone 2 dish as is used in North of the border installations as it gives just that little bit extra gain.

Arqiva statement on Hannington transmitter group
Saturday 25 February 2012 12:39PM

kieron: Unfortunately irrespective of what your aerial might have been adjusted to receive DUKs reception predictor indicates that even after the low power multiplexes at Hannington have increased their output power on April 18th you are still only indicated as being able to receive SDN and ArqA with a status of variable, and even although ArqB is shown in the green its not exactly that sparkling.

That said though, all multiplexes from Crystal Palace is shown as being reasonably OK from April 18th so it might be worth a try at that.

Stan Herbert: Thanks for that info and pleased to hear that you have found a way around the problem, and one which I will certainly keep in mind as Windows Media centres is one of the few devices that I haven't really been involved with hence being unacquainted with the menu system used in them.

Of course every manufacturer has their own ideas as far as menu systems are concerned, and with quite considerable variations even being found between different models from the same manufacturer, the nature of being from the basic primitive to others that's quite sophisticated to the extent that sometimes they are even inclined to slightly baffle engineers let alone laymen, this being something that makes it difficult to advise people where procedures are involved, as Murphy's law frequently dictates that the most complex of explanations given doesn't apply with the menu system used in their particular TV or box.

Stephanie: Plus in addition to that said by Mazbar regarding the wrong satellite, are you sure that you selected "Astra 2A/B/D & Eurobird 1" from the choice box? as the pre-programmed English channels are already stored in the box so there is no need to carry out a scan, this only being said just in case you are tempted to carry out one.

Is the box you have an HDR6110USB?

Heather: Thanks for your update on the situation, and pleased to hear that your problems have now been sorted out by the fitting of a new twin cable (referred to as shotgun type) from the dish, also the fact of the cable having been sensibly installed by allowing it to have enough slack to enable the box to be slid out of the cabinet that its housed in.

Regards / jb.

andy: When you say its still not working, are you referring to trying to not being able to get a magic eye working on TV located in a different room, or alternatively is it one involving the reception of Sky via an RF2 link.

If though a magic eye does not come into the equation then you should really be using RF1 on the Sky box, but further advice can only be given on clarification of the two possibilities mentioned.

The other point being, that if you are also feeding a Freeview signal through the Sky boxes normal aerial socket for purposes of viewing either Freeview or Sky in the other room then you will have to provide your location, (pref: post code) this is to make sure that the Sky box doesnt clash with any of the Freeview signals.

This said applying only if you have a dual standard TV, that meaning analogue (for Sky) and DVB for Freeview.
