Stephen Darch: Although you may well witness a "no signal" warning on your Sky HD boxes this does not necessarily indicate that nothing is being received, and so you should carry out a signal check using the following procedure:
Press "Services" on your Sky remote control and you will see the main menu with "Options" being highlighted.
2:- Select the "Settings" menu using the right arrow button and press select.
3:- Use the left / right arrows to scroll to "Signal" and then press select, the grey bars displayed will show you the strength and quality of the signal being received.
Should anything be indicated then the strength / quality levels seen have to be around 50% minimum to produce a picture, this especially so where the quality is concerned which should never be lower than the strength, because if it is then this points to the dish being slightly out of alignment.

Dave Lindsay: Just to emphasise that I was not by any means suggesting that it would not make any difference, because in some cases it does by picking up a signal from under the foliage level where the trunk of the tree is exposed.

Stephen Darch: Although I am aware that some of these Sky HD boxes can suffer from premature failure of their power supplies, however when it involves two boxes this is a bit of a coincidence, if indeed it is that.
I suggest that you try placing the box in standby for 3 or 4 minutes before disconnecting it from the mains, then after another 3 or 4 minutes reconnect it again and allow it to go through the usual set up procedure and giving an update on results.

Bill: Have you tried carrying out a factory reset on your TV prior to the auto-tune? this on some devices being called "default setting" or on others "first time installation, all of these procedures scrubbing the tuners memory of any data errors that may have occurred during the previous retune.
Should you still not have any success then maybe you could supply the model number of the Sony TV in question

Corin: Purely on the issue of the news services provided, it depends on your location with respect to that of the station, as the lower powered (560w) vertical transmissions offer BBC North West on Ch28 and ITV1 Granada on Ch25, whereas the higher powered (2KW) horizontally polarised signal has BBC1 Wales on Ch57 and ITV1 Wales on Ch53.

Len: If as you say the communal aerial is facing towards Crystal Palace then you could be fighting a losing battle, as Crystal Palace in the main is only indicated as providing good? reception on the ITV mux and variable on the rest as seen on the undermentioned link, albeit that predictions always have to be taken with the proverbial pinch of salt as forecasting where an RF will or will not reach is notoriously difficult because of the variables involved.
I would though be interested to know the result if you carried out a "reception quality" test on any channel that you can receive whilst on that particular channel, this (as you may already know) achieved by pressing : set up / channel settings / channel installation - digital reception test, and with the test channels to use for this test being BBC / ITV / any HD / (10) ITV3 / (11) Pick TV / (15) Film 4, these representing the six mux transmitters used by main stations.

Wendy : If in your TV or boxes set up menu you see "first time installation" mentioned then use this facility followed by another auto-tune, if though the option mentioned is not seen then look for "factory reset" or "default setting" and use one of those.

Stephen Darch: If by receiving a good signal on all feeders you mean that the strength / quality levels are the same on Freesat then no it wont be anything connected with the dish, as to all intents Freesat and Sky are the same as far as dish angle settings are concerned. But though you should carry out the LNB setting check on your Sky box just in case for any unknown reason this has changed, the procedure to use being / LNB checking - reset on a Sky HD box 1:- Press services on your Sky remote control and you will see the main menu with "Options" highlighted. 2:- Highlight the "Settings" menu using the right arrow button and press select. 3:- Press "0 - 1 - Select" to access the Installer setup menu (this menu is not listed on the Settings menu options). 4:- Press Select to see the Setup menu displayed with Hi and Lo band frequencies indicated. The correct LNB values should read: LNB Type: Standard 1:- Low Band LO Frequency: 9.75 2:- High Band LO Frequency:10.60 3:- LNB Power Supply: ON 4:- 22 KHz Command: ON 5:- Single feed mode normally off. Press the red button to reset them to default values even although they may already be indicating them.

dan: If you are just looking for a simple manual switch that will work with any satellite box then although this device is generally used to enable one receiver to switch between two satellite dishes it can also be used in reverse, this achieved by connecting the feed from the dish into the middle connector and with the Sky box being fed from one end and the Freesat box from the other.

Ian Carrick: If the aerial used by your neighbours who had reported as not having any problems is only partially obstructed or even in the clear, then that as you had suspected, is proof that the tree is the cause of the problem.
Although by all means try what Dave Lindsay has suggested, but though you should also consider repositioning the aerial to another part of the roof, or even dependant on construction of property as well as the physical size of the aerial, the using of a gutter type mount for the aerial which gives a certain element of freedom as far as where to mount it is concerned, rather than one spot (usually chimney breast) on the roof, the difference in signal levels between both positions in most cases being negligible.
