PAULINE: As Steve has mentioned, you appear to have two possibilities for reception, however as Leicester is quite a complex area for reception with the possibilities changing dependant on test post codes entered, in the interests of accuracy (or at least a bit nearer to) you really have to provide your post code, or at the minimum the first part of it.

Thanks for the info on the TV, which appears OK, but it should be remembered that although HD is not as yet being transmitted from any of the two possibilities seen, (Waltham and Sutton Coldfield) you have to remember that when this does happen unfortunately this LG model is not capable of receiving HD due to the type of tuner it uses.

Gordon: Heathfield does not as yet transmit in HD, and judging by information seen wont be doing until June 2012.

Post code info would reveal if any other possibilities exist.

john owen: Unfortunately the first part of your post code isn't sufficient to obtain any reasonable level of accuracy concerning what's possible in your area, as there are large variations in the predictions dependant on what is entered for the second part of the code.

You cant as such really programme Freeview, as it depends on what is picked up during a scan, the channels stored only applicable to what was obtained at that particular time, as Freeview is not like analogue insomuch that something might appear later on that wasn't there before.

Steve: Yes, quite correct! I missed this basically because I am inclined to concentrate more on what a person writes rather than the links that appear at the side, assuming (incorrectly) that you had tried out a few test codes.

john: Maybe yes, although as these retuning adverts are intended for people who are already using Freeview equipment its really the case of whether or not you are, because if you are, then your box could possibly not be compatible with technical aspects of the new system.

Maybe you could clarify on this regarding what it is you are using and your location.

tommy g: "If" you are feeding the RF output on the Sky box into the Sharps aerial input, then you have to remember that "analogue" has to be selected on the TV before tuning same.

KMJ,Derby:(Re: john owen's posting) This has shown me that I really will have to refrain from using a split screen whilst on this website, as that's more than once I have missed the links on the RHS of the posting by them being obscured by the masking, hence reason for my comment re post code.
(Or of course I could alter the split to the left!)

Nick: If you already have the TV in question tuned to the VCR's RF output, then all you do is couple the Freeview box into the VCR using a scart cable, then if you select "external input" (or whatever its called on your VCR) that will feed the Freeview box into your TV's aerial socket.

By the way the VCR will have to be left switched on to use the modulator, the only annoying thing with doing that being that you "might" hear (from actual VCR) the VCR's video head spinning for about 20 minutes or so before stopping.

valentina: There IS problems at the Bath transmitter, but the thing that should be remembered is, that although its maybe a commonly done thing to immediately carry out a re-scan in an attempt to recover the channels lost its not always the best policy.

The downside of doing this being, that anyone who has done this will require to keep re-scanning at very regular intervals (maybe 30 mins or so) to check if the channels lost have returned, whereas if things had been left as they were the programme channels would have came back on again themselves when selected from the EPG, as they havent actually been lost, but would be on a re-scan.

This is the snag with DTT, as unlike analogue the programmes in the EPG are only those that applied at the time of the scan, as DTT doesn't update automatically if something lost returns.

james: Nothing is indicated for the Girvan transmitter as far as maintenance is concerned, although this cannot always be relied upon as being 100% accurate.

You should really try to refrain from carrying out re-scans when stations are known to be lost on a regular basis, as all you do is lose the stations already stored in the TV's memory, and with DTT reception anything lost isn't updated automatically and so requires constant re-scanning to find out if the stations have returned, whereas if nothing had been touched they would have come back on again themselves.
