Below are all of jb38's postings, with the most recent are at the bottom of the page.Andy: Yes! the Proamp24 should be a perfect replacement for your SLX, its 100mA line feed output being exactly the same as the rating on Vision's own power supply.
However, as the Vision variable gain mast head amplifier is capable of providing up to 27dB gain at maximum advance, I would advise backing it off to the minimum (15dB) when first setting it up, checking the signal strength levels on each of the muxes received, then if necessary, advancing it as required.
The only reason for suggesting this is to avoid the possibility of signal overload on the tuner, as the total gain of the system will already be 24dB at minimum level, the Proamp 24 having added 9dB to the output of the Vision
mast head unit, and although you are located at approximately 38 miles away from the Winter Hill transmitter, a terrain check indicates that you are line-of-sight to same.

Alan Goss: No, as either that model or alternatively the single port type referred to in the undermentioned link should be perfectly OK for this purpose if installed between the aerial and the existing distribution amplifier, the variable output being adjusted to a low level to start off with then advanced as necessary to lift the signal strength up to around the 85% or thereabouts, that is if achievable!
The qualification on using this or any other variable booster, is to ensure that the output level of the multiplex already received at the highest level isn't lifted to above 95% or so.

david: Try carrying out a "manufacturers reset" on the TV rather than a normal retune, the reset procedure also known on some models as "first time installation" / "default setting" etc.
However, as the aforementioned also reverts any personal settings you may have made back to their default values, try carrying out the alternative procedure of removing the aerial connector "prior" to retuning, this action blanking out everything (incl corrupted data) stored in the tuner, reconnecting the aerial on completion followed by a further retune.

Alan Goss: Re Answered your own query (six minutes between postings), Yes, that's exactly the reason.
On the subject of signal strength, pleased to see that the addition of the SLX2 has had the desired effect, although I would back its gain control off slightly to give around 90% or so strength, this action being as a safeguard against the possibility of any slight fluctuations in the signal received (which can be up or down) intermittently taking the strength over the 100% level, as this "might" result in the occasional glitch being seen on the picture.
By the way, 100% strength on a Freeview receiver corresponds to the maximum dB level that the device is capable of operating at without being overloaded, the problem being that any intermittent rises in dB levels above this maximum will still be indicated as 100% strength, this being why its always advisable to keep it a tad lower in order to accommodate for this possibility.

J Preece: Made in Cardiff (8) is only broadcast from the Wenvoe LCF transmitter on C51 /714mhz, whereas Bay TV Swansea (8) is transmitted from Kilvey Hills local mux on C30 / 546.0Mhz, albeit information on this TX is nearly non existent.
You should try carrying out a manual tune on C30 / 546.0Mhz and see what comes up, if nothing, try it again but pause after you have entered the mux channel number (do "not" press search or scan) as your TV's tuner acts like a signal meter in this mode indicating the slightest trace of a signal, whereas it's passed by if search or scan is pressed.

Stephen: Community (SD) is listed as EPG 63 in areas covered by "full service" station, as its broadcast on COM6.
Keep it Country (EPG87) and Vintage TV (EPG86) are only listed in the guide in areas covered by a COM7 HD transmitter.
Motors TV (71) and Daystar TV (73) are no longer broadcast on Freeview.

Carole Hughes : In addition to all already said, although the signal path from the Sutton Coldfield transmitter (@12 miles/99 degrees) is indicated as suffering from a line-of-sight obstruction at just under 2 miles prior to your location, DUK does indicate good reception.
However, dependant on the actual level received and also the type of aerial being used, "reverse pick up" reception (i.e: reception via the rear of your aerial) might be possible from this station, as Sutton Coldfield is located at almost exactly 180 degrees from the direction your aerial will facing for reception from The Wrekin.
Therefore, if your HD TV ("not" an HD ready type) offers a manual tuning facility? it might be worthwhile trying a manual tune test on C33, this being Sutton Coldfields COM7 HD transmitter which carries Talking Pictures (81), if nothing comes up, do the test again but pause after entering C33, as stopping at this point allows the tuner to act like a form of signal meter indicating signal strength levels well under that necessary to resolve a picture.
Further advice dependant on outcome.

Phil Naldrett: Knowledge of a persons location is essential with queries of this nature, this preferably given as a post code or one from nearby, e.g: a shop incl post office, as this would enable access to info on the COM7 HD transmitter that covers your area, as well as the signal level expected from same.

StevensOnln1: Sorry, no duplicate intended, as I was totally unaware that you had already replied making reference to a posting I had made some time ago.
