Mendip transmitter - January 11th retune required | TV channelsThursday 13 January 2011 8:18PM
Frome
Regarding my 8:07pm post today, some additional information. I live in the BA11 postcode district and am well within the Mendip transmitter coverage area - in fact I can see the aerial from my window!
Regarding another comment, I am also surprised at how little publicity was given to this. My wife said there was a brief message on screen that she ignored. The only other way I found out was when I couldn't get some channels.

Brian, thanks for your advice. Your tips about doing a double scan - one with aerial removed, worked for both my Samsung tv and my Humax PVR. However I did find with my two ageing Sony set-top boxes (bedroom and kitchen tvs), a simple rescan did the trick.
I am left wondering just how many people are going to find your advice, or continue to be stuck with missing channels. For example, I can't imagine my very sharp and bright 98 year old mother in law, still living on her own, managing to discover how to do all this. Needless to say I will sort her out, but how many others are in her position?
It is still not clear to me whose responsibility it was to ensure everyone affected knew about the change and what to do. At the very least there should have been a free maildrop to everyone in the affected region. What happened to the irritating character in the tv adverts in the run up to the digital switchover?

Following Brian's comments (Friday 14 January 2011 4:53PM) I emailed Arqiva with the following message:
"I am interested in hearing what steps you took to inform all users of the Mendip transmitter of the changes that took place on 11 Jan 2011.
I have found the following pdf on your website:
http://www.arqiva.com/cor….pdf
What was the distribution for this release?"
I got the following message back on Sunday 16 Jan:
"Dear Mr Morrow
We sent the press release to all local media in the West region, we placed display ads in three key regional papers, and sent a mailshot to a over 100 dealers and aerial installers. In addition Freeview ane Digital UK put information on their websites. I'm not sure what else we could have done.
In normal circumstances Arqiva has no remit to liaise with viewers but this case we felt obliged as neither DUK nor Freeview thought it their place to take the lead.
I hope this answers your question.
Kind regards
Bruce Randall
Corporate PR Manager
Arqiva"
This reinforces the impression that no-one saw it as their responsibility to keep the public informed. Very frustrating. (BA116PE)

I have retuned my nearly new Samsung digital tv and now seem to have lost a load of channels. Most of these I rarely use, but some are much more important. Eg I can no longer get Film 4. How do I fix this?
