Robert: If you want people to take your conspiracy theory seriously, perhaps you could explain how it would benefit any government to incentivise TV manufacturers to increase rates of cancer and cataracts etc, given that this would hugely increase the burden on a healthcare system which is already barely able to cope at times?

David Bond: What made you think you would get more HD channels? There have been no recent announcement of any new HD channels launching on Freeview. To answer why you have lost BBC Four HD we need to know which transmitter you're using and where you are in relation to it (please provide a full postcode so that we can access your coverage prediction).

Chris bryan: COM7 & COM8 are in the process of becoming single frequency networks (SFNs) which will be broadcast on UHF channels 55 & 56 for all 30 transmitters which carry COM7/8 until these two temporary multiplexes close at some point between mid 2020 and 2022. This then frees up UHF channels 31-37 for muxes which need to be relocated from the 700MHz band, so without this change COM7/8 would have likely had to close much earlier whereas by moving to the 700MHz centre gap they are able to continue broadcasting for longer.

Digital UK are currently reporting that COM7 is running at 268W and COM8 at 280W from Fenton, with the power levels needing to be lower than the main PSB1-3 & COM4-6 muxes in order to prevent interference with other transmitters.

MarkO: The only change that has been made to COM7/8 from Ridge Hill is the frequency that each multiplex is broadcast on. Both still use the same DVB-T2 modulation that they have used since launch. Does your second TV pick up COM7/8 if you swap it with the TV that is able to receive them?

Kevin Amesbury: The most likely explanation for why you are unable to receive COM7/8 since the frequency changes at the Fenton transmitter is that you are using a Group A aerial which was never designed to receive frequencies in the upper half of the UHF band such as UHF channels 55 & 56. The highest UHF channel ever previously used at Fenton was C35 (used for Channel 5 analogue) so there would have been no need for anyone in its coverage area to have a wideband aerial fitted.

David Bond: Have you retuned since the frequency changes that took place at Sutton Coldfield on 7th March?

Barry: Jazz FM is not on Freeview.

Rowridge (Isle Of Wight, England) transmitter

Tim Wardlaw: On 21st March COM8 will move to UHF channel 56 and the local mux will move to 37. On 2nd May COM7 will move to UHF channel 55. These are the only frequency changes that Digital UK have listed for Rowridge.

bill: The engineering notice mentions BBC channels because it comes from a feed provided by BBC engineering. Normal service will be resumed when the engineering work is finished, which will usually be by the time it gets dark. Do not attempt to retune.

Lee Drummond: There have been no faults showing for the Fenton transmitter since the frequency change work was completed. The most likely explanation for why you are getting no signal on UHF channels 55/56 is that you are using a Group A aerial which was not designed to receive these frequencies (see my reply to Kevin Amesbury above).
