Ridge Hill (ITV West) (County of Herefordshire, England) There Monday 28 November 2011 1:24AM

Where I used to live in Abbeydale, Gloucester we had good reception from Mendip. Generally in Gloucester, you can get Mendip as long as you are west of the shadow cast by Robinswood Hill (or as in the case of most of Abbeydale, in the gap between the hill and the Cotswold escarpment). I reckon that means that something like 60%-70% of the city can get Mendip through a suitable aerial - those parts that miss out are much of Hucclecote, Brockworth, Barnwood, and parts of Longlevens.

Chris J - Ridge Hill carries ITV West as an additional channel to bring the right regional news for those in north Gloucestershire.
Bizarrely though, it does not transmit BBC West, which covers all of Gloucestershire's news stories very well. I would advise anyone in north Gloucestershire to either use Virgin cable (if in Cheltenham or Gloucester)or Freesat to be sure of getting BBC West.

Chris J - I would absolutely agree that BBC West is better than ITV West for Gloucestershire. It's bound to be, given that the BBC region is half the size of the ITV region.

The addition of the Boars Hill transmitter in 2013 is intended to improve reception to the south of the city.

John - You may have to wait for the Boars Hill transmitter which is coming in 2013, to improve coverage south east of the Beckley transmitter.

Barrie - one thing you will not get, unless you use your Skydish for it, is the right BBC regional news for your area. Ridge Hill only carries midlands BBC news (whereas it does carry ITV west).
Coleford has a west relay, and if that is out of reach, then Mendip is receivable in other parts of the town. Both of these transmit BBC West, which editorially covers the Forest.

I think if the 10C mux goes out at the same power, this coverage map is optimistic. The BBC in their roll-out plans and development plans for 10C both suggest that there will be a need for at least two transmitters in the Forest of Dean - one on the Coleford BBC/ITV West TV mast, and another on the masts above Cinderford at Collafield.

Optimistic coverage when Stockend Wood starts transmitting the Gloucestershire mux, as per Churchdown Hill. Forest of Dean too hilly to get this range. That's why the BBC etc has proposed at least 2 traaqnmitters for the Forest at Coleford and Collafield.

Phil - editorially on ITV Gloucestershire is covered by West, whereas Central covers the Midlands, so it's West you want.

Ray - It is possible that BBC West has been stored in the 800s in your tuner. Alternatively you might have to do a manual scan to get it.
What can happen is that as the dreaded midlands channels are lower down the frequency range, they are stored first as your BBC and ITV region, so blocking out the west channels which come later in the frequency spectrum.
