Is the ultimate aim of removing so many available channels from freeview to shut it down and force us to buy freesat receivers?

Mike P, thanks.

so far as I understand it, the element suitable for the particular frequency is the one which receives the signal, the others being reflectors and directors. Since a second, third etc reflector behind the receiving element is of no benefit, if, for example, we were trying to receive a mux on the high frequencies, there would be many reflectors and few directors. Am I wrong?

thanks. Not sure I understand how more than one reflector in a line is beneficial but will take your word for it.
I realise that the diplole on a yagi is a compromise and very difficult to get a good signal across many different frequencies now the xmitters are no longer grouped, but the fact remains that a yagi on its best frequencies is far superior in gain to a log.
My aerial is actually home made, based on the old J Beam square dipole and reflector 'slot' principle. It is triple boom and I made it to work on the old groups b and c/d as that was the setup on Sudbury. Now I am b******d as they are moving channels into the old group A. I made it because the wideband yagi was no good, for the reasons you give.

they are indeed, but if you get time to explain how extra reflectors on the log periodic are beneficial, at your leisure, it would be appreciated.

It seems to me that freeview is a rather naff setup. I am technically in the Aldeburgh transmitter area, but want more channels. I had a group B aerial which was fine for Sudbury on analogue, including the weak signal then from C5.

This was no use when freeview came along. After much experimenting I built the present aerial. It got me all the muxes, including the worst one on channel 60. I get 90% plus on all muxes, strength and quality. But regularly several get knocked out, though the ones on ch 41 and 44 are the last to disappear. When any/all disappear, the aforementioned figures go down to zero. It seems that anything it does not like, rain, fog, hot sun, Dutchmen, knock it out at the drop of a hat! There are no half measures, it is all or nothing.

The Aldeburgh transmitter is relatively high powered and covers a wide area. It is long overdue that this broadcast the full range of channels, specially now that freeview are making it yet more difficult to get Tacolneston and Sudbury with their numerous channel changes.

It has a large area and more of us would use it if it boadcast the full range, and it would overcome my problems with Sudbury......left a comment on Sudbury transmitter for you

I have lost all the hd channels yet the weaker multiplexes which are often a problem are ok. Any ideas please?
