So I wouldn't trust the map 100%!

chris: According to Digitsl UK tradeview, you should be getting a very good signal. I too use a loft aerial for Freeview in the bedroom, and receive a good quality signal from all but the weakest muxes off the Sudbury transmitter. Have you got the correct aerial - Group B, horizontal, and is it pointing directly at the transmitter (21 degrees from your location)? Maybe there are other things in the signal's path that affect it (buildings etc.), if so you may need to install an outdoor aerial. Hope that helps.

I've always struggled to get the COM muxes reliably here on the Essex coast, even with a wideband aerial, so after re-tuning this morning, I wasn't surprised to find I couldn't receive any ArqB channels. The odd thing was, on BBC1 at around 08:00, I was getting Look North news instead of Look East! (but that may of had nothing to do with today's frequency change). This evening after several re-scans, I can still get no Arq B or even any Arq A channels via the Samsung DVD recorder, and my Goodmans box now won't find ANY channels. However, poor reception maybe due in part to the current weather/atmospherics. The output power of the COM muxes is so low, it's always going to be hit-or-miss for the next few months.

Mark Fletcher: My postcode is CO14 8AW (that info sometimes disappears from my posts!) Anyway, the Look North problem seems to have been short-lived, probably more to do with the regional link, but maybe Mux 1 was temporarily weak at Sudbury at that time of the day. Today I still have no ArqB channels, and no ArqA (Ch54 was good before yesterday). Signal strength on Ch41 & Ch44 is around 82%, and Ch49 is 75%. No idea why my Goodmans box won't find any channels as of yesterday. It worked perfectly till then, and was unaffected by the July switchover (some boxes couldn't handle 8k).
I'm not convinced that yesterday's frequency switch was all they tinkered with ;-(

Dale: I agree, an old booster does make a difference to some users, but not me (I've got an Antiference A1100R) - I suffer a 20% LOSS of signal if the cable goes through that!
Trevor Wright: Yes, you're right about old equipment, but mine's all bang to up date, and I still can't get Ch63!
Tried another re-tune today, and my Samsung HDD/DVD recorder shows a 55% signal strength when trying to tune in to Ch54 (ArqA), but doesn't find any TV channels on that frequency. So as posted previously, I now no longer receive either Arqiva muxes. A substantial power output increase is what's needed. Or is that out of the question?

Update: By removing an aerial splitter, I've now got ArqA channels back. It just means I can't have TV and PC (via an August DVB-T205 USB stick) connected at the same time if I want to watch Dave, Sky News etc. But it just shows what a big difference a small sacrifice can make. In my case, it was around a 15% increase in signal strength.

Dale: It's a good job someone's still got a sense of humour amongst all this woe! As regards 'expertise', it would seem that yourself, and many others on UKfreeTV, have more expertise than most of those so-called experts running the DSO circus! We appreciate how technically challenging it is to put into operation, but we'd just like to know what's going on! I'm no expert myself, but I've learnt an awful lot about digital TV from this forum over the last few months, and I'm glad to pass on that knowledge to anyone that needs help.
Aaron: If you're virtually next-door to the transmitter, then where the heck is the ideal spot to get Ch63?!! It would be interesting to know just how many people can actually receive ArqB off of Sudbury, and where are they? Back in the days of analogue, a friend of mine lived a mile from the Crystal Palace mast, and used a wire coat-hanger stuck in the back of the TV for an aerial, and got a perfect picture! I bet he couldn't do it now. So much for progress...

Apologies if I've not seen the answer in other posts, but is the vast difference in power output between the PSB muxes @ 100kW having any affect on the low power COM muxes? Currently, my channel 41 & 44 have 100% strength and 100% quality, Ch49 100% strength and 90% quality, Ch54 100% strength but only 10% quality, and Ch63 nothing at all. According to what I've read, 100% signal strength is not necessarily a good thing, so my next step is to fit a variable attenuator, and see what affect reducing signal strength has. Or would that eliminate COM mux reception completely?

Dave Lindsay: I have no booster fitted, I fitted one to see what would happen, and actually found it reduced signal by about 20% (perhaps I should try that again, as it seems to act as an attenuator!). I've had a Group E wideband aerial on the chimney for about 2 years, and can also get channels 41,44, and 49 on an old analogue Yagi aerial in the loft! As regards signal strength, my various Freeview receivers give different readings on that score, but average between 85-100%. I guess only a professional signal meter can give an accurate reading.

Dave W: Just to add to jb38's reply - ArqB is due to switch to Ch63 on 16th November 2011, with a power increase to 2.2kW which may help you.
