paul: Freeview uses an aerial and Freesat uses a dish.
For assistance to the issue receiving ITV1, C4, C5 etc please supply your location, preferrably in the form of postcode or nearby postcode such as that of a shop so that likely possibilities as far as reception can be checked. Also, knowledge of the Freeview receiver being used might be useful.

According to Ofcom, XFM is carried on the Tyne & Wear mux which is on 11C. This also carries Metro, Magic, Kiss, Absolute Classic Rock, Absolute Radio 60s, Kerrang!, BBC Newcastle and Heat. Do you have these? If not, can you manually scan 11C?

David Sorley: The Sky box and its card has nothing to do with Freeview on the TV and so they should not affect the tuning process.
Assuming that the DVR is a Freeview one, then the aerial lead should be fed into it and out and into the TV. If you feed output of the Sky box to other rooms via the aerial lead, then the Sky box will need to be daisy-chained as well.

David Sorley: Freeview logos are placed on those devices which it has approved as being compliant with the way in which Freeview works. This doesn't necessarily mean that those which don't have a Freeview logo aren't compliant.
When I said "assuming that the DVR is a Freeview one" I meant one which receives Freeview which is as opposed to a Freesat one.
I found this machine was on sale (when it was available) from places such as Asda, Play.com and Amazon.co.uk. This suggests that it is intended for the UK market. Have you never used it with Freeview?

John Eaton: As ITV3 is on the lowest channel, it gets found first. This is perhaps unlikely, but may be worth a go if all else fails: tune it in after the others.
Either:
- Manually tune (if it has manual tuning) in the four (or five for HD) other channels, as given by jb38. Then tune in C29.
- Run the automatic tuning scan with the aerial unplugged up to 60%. This should give you all except COM4 (ITV3). Then either manually add C29 or select the function to add new services, if it exists.

Coverage predictors exist because of the demand for them and not because they can be in any way absolute.
As far as reception goes, a postcode unit is a massive area. There are many across the country where what can't and can't be received varies greatly. There are many other factors that come into play like whether there are obstructions (trees, buildings) and aerial properties, none of which could ever be taken into account by any predictor. Also, Royal Mail does not deliver RF signals!

Keith: If it only happens when the Record button is pressed then this suggests that it can't be a signal issue. Google terms like <<bush hd pvr recording problem>>.
Perhaps what the dealer said was that, as a matter of good practice, a properly fitted (outdoor) aerial should be used. This is because indoor portable aerials introduce a degree of uncertainty or unstability with the signal.
If you were to install a fixed aerial, then a DM18 will probably be the best as you have ample signal:

You may even be able to fit it in the loft.

d kaye: How is the feed from the aerial split to the different rooms?
If it is a power splitter (distribution amplifier) then this could point to it being at fault.

brian: I should imagine that it is because Sudbury's coverage isn't so good.
Sudbury PSB channels and Rouncefall PSB channels form a Single Frequency Network. Rouncefall does not broadcast the COMs.
