DebbieK: It is probably best to see what an installer says when on site.
I am not saying that the aerial has to be at the height of the houses on the hill. My point is that as you tend away from that height there is more potential for difficulty.
The trick is to find a spot where all channels are good, and in situations such as yours that may be found to be more difficult. Evidently the lower frequency signal on C50 isn't as good as the others, where you aerial happens to be. But the aerial was put there before the C50 came one air.
As jb38 says, Freesat is one possibility.

Graham T Jones: There was no retune required for viewers of Tay Bridge. The message was put out by Angus transmitters and therefore its relays, of which Tay Bridge is one. The message here in Yorkshire was that viewers may need to retune, owing to the fact that not all transmitters were due to have changes that required it.
If you are receiving from Tay Bridge and you have BBC services and you are missing some then you can only be missing STV, Channel 4, Channel 5 etc, so manually tune UHF channel 47. If this is a HD set then those services are on UHF channel 44.

Toni2: It seems pretty likely that this is some interference due to it occurring at the same time. Further, whatever is the source operates by timer whose clock does not follow Summer Time. Granted, you may not even realise it uses a clock, but you will when you find out what it is!
I suggest that you use a battery-powered AM (LW or MW) radio to try and track down the source of the interference. Tune it away from a station. Listen for a noise appearing at the same time as the TV reception goes. Then walk around with the radio to see where the noise is the loudest.
Spinning the radio around should result in the noise getting louder and quieter. If you hold the radio with its front facing you and turn around until it gets to its loudest. When it is at its loudest, you know that the noise is coming from anywhere in front of you, behind you, above you (or indeed below you).
Conversely, when you turn around (or turn the radio) so that the noise is at its quietest then you know that the noise is coming from either side of the radio.
Turning the main incoming power switch off (on the distribution board) whilst the noise can be heard on the radio may be helpful. If the noise stops then you know that the cause is something that is powered from the mains and is in your relations' house. If it doesn't stop then either it is something in a neighbour's house or is in your relations' house but is powered from some other source such as batteries (e.g. electronics associated with solar panels, electronic gas/electricity meters). Try and pinpoint where the noise is coming from using the radio.

Grant: If your aerial is pointing to Durris then I suggest that Gartley Moor might be better.
From Durris you aren't likely to pick up the full service (you will only get the PSB channels). Gartley Moor is PSB-only, so you will be no worse off.

The ground about 5 miles away is 300m above your ground level. This is Gartley Moor (or near to).
If your aerial is a Group A one (with a red tip) then it won't be the best for Gartley Moor as it is C/D (green tip):

The Gartley Moor transmitter is only six degrees anti-clockwise of Durris. It is vertically polarised whereas Durris is horizontally polarised, so the aerial will need to be vertical rather than horizontal.

Grant: If your receiver has a manual tune function then use it.
For Durris, BBC is UHF channel 28 and STV/C4/C5 is on C25. HD is on C22.
From Gartley Moor, BBC is C58, STV/C4/C5 is C61 and HD is C54. C61 will change to C49 on 31st July.
A tip: on the manual tune function of many receivers, you can enter/select a UHF channel number and before pressing the button to scan (may be "OK" or "Scan" etc) wait and it will give an indication of strength and quality, even in cases where scanning it gives a message that there are no channels found because the signal is under the threshold required to show a picture or too poor quality.

M diamond: The common factor is the aerial system which may be the responsibility of your landlord. Some communal aerial systems require adjustment following the change.
Those using satellite (Sky or Freesat perhaps) will not be affected by the issue you and others are experiencing.

Refer to page 11. You need to go to the Channel List where there is an option to delete channels.
The 13 services/channels that you watch are on the following multiplexes:
C50 - PSB1 - BBC One, BBC Two
C59 - PSB2 - ITV, ITV2, Channel 4, Channel 5
C58 - COM4 - ITV3, 5*, 5USA
C49 - COM5 - Dave, Movie Mix
C55 - COM6 - Film4, ITV4
This means that you will need to add all five channels in order to have available the 13 services you wish to view.

JamesT: Perhaps your communal aerial system needs adjustment to allow through C50 (BBC) and possibly also C49 (Pick TV, Dave etc). Seomtimes they are fitted with filters that only allow, from the aerial, channels used by the designated transmitter.
The discrepancy with the frequency in MHz shown for C54 is due to the negative offset on that channel from Winter Hill.
The "centre" of C54 is 738.000MHz. C54 with a negative offset is 0.2MHz (or 200kHz) below the "centre".
I'm not sure whether that makes any difference here, that is your TV may report that the signal is on 738MHz when it is infact a little lower.
The only thing I will say is that the HD multiplex (C54) uses DVB-T2 signal mode whereas all the other broadcasts (the standard definition ones) use DVB-T mode. So make sure that that is set correctly, if there is such an option.
