P. Richards: BBC Alba is on logical channel number (LCN) 8 in Scotland and transmitted on BBC A multiplex.

Is there an option to add services or manually tune to the RF/UHF channel used for BBC A for your transmitter. I can't tell you what it is without knowing your transmitter or your location direction of your aerial.

You might be able to go on to one of the BBC LCNs and find it on the strength screen.

mr ian duthie: I presume that your aerial is on the Rosehearty relay (275 degrees, vertically polarised). This doesn't carry the commercial channels.

The Digital UK predictor doesn't look good for reception from Durris for the commercial multiplexes. If you are to ever get such channels, then I think we can safely say that it will have to be a rooftop aerial.

Perhaps the pros might be able to suggest what the possibility of success might be.

mike: I have a Viewsonic VX912 and it has in-built speakers. I know that many of these models don't have speakers in.

If yours has speakers in (and you wish to utilise them), then you need a lead with a 3.5mm stereo jack on one end and phono plugs on the other. The phonos go into the Freeview box and the jack plugs in to the monitor.

brendon hawkins: The first and most obvious thing to check must be that the amplifier is power on. Power failure (or a fault with the device) is likely to result in no signal coming out of it.

Chris Clement: Alltwen only broadcasts the Public Service Broadcaster (PSB) channels/multiplexes. This covers all BBC channels, ITV1, ITV2, S4C, C4, E4, More4, C5 and a few others. If the reception of these channels are OK, then there is probably no issue with your reception from Alltwen. It also means that if your tuner has picked up the commercial channels (ITV3, Pick TV, Dave etc), then they will be coming from somewhere else which will explain poor reception on those channels.

It is possible that your tuner has decided to go with the signals coming from another transmitter and the two likely suspects for this in your area are Kilvey Hill and Pontardawe. Have you confirmed that BBC and ITV1/C4/C5 are tuned to Ch43 and Ch46 respectively. (Also Ch50 for HD services where applicable). This information will probably be given on the signal strength/quality screen whilst one of those stations are selected.

DR Tucker: Before switchover the digital signals are broadcast on lower power and are therefore not as strong as they will be when switchover happens. This means that the footprint of the current digital services does not meet the current analogue ones.

If the valley is the issue, then it might be that the current low power signals from Crystal Palace aren't strong enough for its residents to receive, whereas when their power is increased in April, it will.

Because of this, there will always be some people who cannot get digital prior to switchover, even though they receive analogue from a transmitter that carries digital.

shiela becci: Without knowing your location or transmitter you are receiving from it is difficult to give an exact answer.

Channel 5+1 is carried on the same multiplex as ITV3, QVC and some others, so if you don't get these then you won't get Channel 5+1. If you can, then your receiver needs retuning.

Nicholas Davies: Dave is a commercial channel and therefore it is its decision as to what platforms it broadcasts on and at what charge to viewers.

iain cameron: Under the law, a retailer must repair, replace or refund on any goods that do not peform as described.

Unless the retailer advertised that the device in question has a Now and Next facility, then you cannot return it under your statutory rights where the product was bought in a shop. For mail order/online orders you have a seven day cooling off period (under the law).

You say that not having this facility is the "deal breaker". As you already have the product then I'd say that the deal has already been done!

However, many retailers do have some sort of moneyback guarantee where the purchaser changes their mind.

If a particular feature is of importance to you, then I suggest that you do some research on specifications on the manufacturer's website. Quite often you can also download user manuals which will give you an idea of how the product functions.
