Yup, time to switch to Freesat: Freeview is very likely to become unwatchable.

Bill, your BBC4HD on COM7 doesn't surprise me at all. This channel/mux drops s/s frequently. BBC et al refuse to admit it but you can watch s/s and quality shift, many people have exactly the same problem and excuses such as propagation issues don't wash.

That said, I would have thought that with the figs you give recording would be ok. Points to a transmission fault of some kind.

Once again the Tacolneston transmitter is down on several channels.

I can guarantee the response from the people who run this site will be there is no problem, it's your installation which is utter tosh so are there any properly knowledgeable people here who have a reliable source of information?

Down for a spell yesterday, low power today.

Elsewhere I see that Tacolneston is giving a weak signal into next week.

Yup, BBC 4 very bad tonight.

The next changes won't be good.

Time to go FreeSat.

System here is a high gain E aerial (Labgear) with amplifier also Labgear IIRC. Splitter at wall socket.

We used to have a reliable aerial guy but he's retired. Most are utter cowboys: elderly neighbour had a new TV aerial - vertically polarised! Installer also said she needed a new radio aerial so fitted a DAB: she has FM no DAB!

Any recommendations?

Tacolneston (Norfolk, England) Full Freeview transmitter

The Tacolneston transmitter is on reduced power.

Com7&8 can't be used and even BBC1HD is unwatchable.

Site: NR28 9PU. Aerial installation top notch. Freeview perfect on all mixes before Nov 5. Engineering work schedule for week commencing Nov 5.

You should make this clear.

Both digitaluk and a615digital state that engineering work is planned for the w/c Nov 5 hence my comment.

It appears that either the work is ongoing or it has resulted in a drastic reduction in power.

StevensOnin1: your reply is the usual unhelpful response.

Since my initial post I have been reliably informed that there have been several faults at Tacolneston for example it was off air for a short time on the 4th , yesterday there were three faults logged and today four.

My aerial system was upgraded and fully tested. It IS near perfect (there is room for a little improvement for Com7&8 but the post upgrade metering showed excellent performance so we didn't bother and anyway this might entail too strong a signal on the high power muxes). The simple TV meter is now rock solid 10/10 on the high power muxes but Com7&8 are considerably down on the initial post upgrade levels.

I know for certain that the transmitter was off air because everything went off and a similar fault happened on the 4th. The high power muxes came back slowly, btw: this is also indicative of a transmitter problem.

There is no local interference.

Your assertion that no-one else has mentioned the fault is spurious.

As for the history of this site, I know all of that. However it remains out of date. The comments page remains hopelessly ineffective yet I gave details of far better options to the owner years ago, advice that he took no notice of. It has the basis of being useful but more up to date information is available elsewhere together with a sensible approach to enquiries.

Instead of flatly denying any problems and treating people (some of whom know more about the subject than you think) like imbeciles you might look at such reports as interesting and worth investigating instead of your usual, standard wording, outright dismissal.

April 14, 20:30

All Tacolneston high power mux HD transmissions down. Suddenly broke up then nothing.

SD OK and oddly some low power Com7&8 HD.
