Les Nicol: The Single European Market (remember "1992") provides the same provisions for all EU countries.
I suspect the RoI doesn't have the obscure (and not illegal) copyright provisions of the earlier 1998 UK Copyright and Patents Act.

Neither Freeview nor your TV Licence pay for your own aerial, that is your responsibility.
The bad winter weather does cause damage to aerial, and they are not designed to last forever.
