Jan: That usually happens when you create a "SCART loop". You only need to connect a SCART from the Sky box's SCART socket marked "TV" to the TV and the SCART marked "VCR" to the DVD player.

If you also connect the DVD to the TV, you will see the problem you have.

Mike Sugar: No, you need a Sky subscription to record/pause/play on a Sky+ or Sky+HD box.

You can get Freesat+HD boxes for quite reasonable prices, and no subscription or card is required.

Are you using a set top box or a integrated Freeview TV?
