No, you can't "tune into" pay channels, they are protected by the SSSL encryption system.

Nic: You sound like you have created a "SCART loop". Only connect one SCART from a device to the TV, use the "VCR SCART" on the Humax to connect to the DVD.
Then put the Humax into stand-by mode to access the DVD.

Brian Wright: The Help Scheme is there for that situation. No-one with an "reasonably picture via his old analogue setup" requires more than a Freeview box.

Simon Jones: I would check Single frequency interference | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice - also check you don't have too much signal. If you have boosters or amplifiers, try removing them from your system.

Ben whitehouse: Assuming you are pointing the aerial at Sutton Coldfield. I would suggest you use satellite-grade cable to connect the aerial to the set-top box.
