Mark Lightfoot: Connect a SCART cable from the V+ box marked "VCR" to the DVD recorder.
To access the DVD recorder, put the V+ box into standby mode.

S Wyatt: The satellites are in orbit over Africa, and provide the same level of signal all over the UK.
There must be a clear line-of-sight between the dish and the satellite for reception.

Richard: Not all equipment has the same level of sensitivity to signals. If your signal level is "just acceptable" (or "very high") on box will work OK, the other won't.

Thomas: Probably nothing to do with DSO, probably just a fault causing the transmitter to use backup feeds for analogue for several minutes.

mark: You might want to consider moving the aerial to the roof, as loft mounted aerials are unreliable for Freeview reception.
