M W CARTER: The best thing to do is to replace the VCR with a Freeview+ or Freeview+HD box. Your VCR has no digital tuner, it will not operate after switchover.

Phil: As switchover completes on Wednesday, when the final signal levels are introduced, you would be best advised to wait until then. Only BBCA is on full power at the moment (see the top of the page).

Phil: The usual reason for rain effecting Freeview reception is that water is leaking into the cables, but for other reasons see Single frequency interference | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice .
Some earlier models of the Humax PVR can function badly between the first and second stages of switchover, but - given a memory wipe - they will work perfectly from the second stage.
