Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Dover (Kent, England) mast?

UK Free TV shows the coverage area for a radio transmitter as a coloured overlay (orange for FM, other colours for DAB) on the grey map. We have computed the coverage by combining the terrain with the official radiation pattern. A single click will select the transmitter to view the coverage for a single site, and a double click goes to a page showing full details. Click on the buttons in the right-hand corner of the map to choose from different frequencies (or multiplexes for DAB).

Martin Turner: It would be up to the stations to pay the multiplex operator on a commercial basis to transmit their stations. Being on a multiplex that covers a whole county is probably unaffordable for most community stations, however Ofcom have been trialling small scale DAB which covers a smaller area at much lower cost and is planning to offer this in the future to stations which are not yet on DAB, subject to government approval (see article linked below for more details).

Will we ever get DAB+ in East Kent? With its additional stations.

ebby: There are no DAB+ stations on the Kent local multiplex, nor any on the BBC National or D1 National multiplexes. Whether any stations on these multiplexes might convert to DAB+ (or when that might happen) is currently unknown. There have been no plans announced for any expansion in coverage of the SDL National multiplex, which currently broadcasts 4 DAB+ stations and covers around 75% of UK households.

Can you please tell me why here at Dover Kent we seem to be shy of about 8 HD tv channels and a lot of DAB radio stations. Is it because we we are close to the French coast or is that we in South East Kent are not worthy of these extra stations ?

Richard Edmonds:

The Dover Freeview transmitter carries all 6 of the multiplexes that most full service transmitters broadcast. It does not carry COM7 nor COM8 which are only temporary services. So if you have a Freeview HD television you should be getting all the available channels. Note that you need to be using an wideband aerial aimed at the transmitter.

Your local Dover DAB transmitter carries most of the available services. Some are not offered as the operator probably does not consider it commercially viable to offer their services, they have to pay to be transmitted from each transmitter.
