The problem with local TV in the UK, unlike in the US where local TV is affiliated to one of the major networks, is that they do not have the finance to transmit live from outside events or to report live from the locality of any news stories. This can only be solved by either local advertising or by subsidy from one of the two networks in the UK who carry regional news or a combination of both. This would also increase the viewing audience of the local stations making them more economically viable.
